Decent Deal 06 M Roadster?
Can anyone with M Roadster knowledge give me an idea if this deal is ok/decent or not?
06 Black/Red 6 speed. 17,000 miles. Asking $36,450. Exceptionally clean. Any common problems? I have missed a drop top since I had my 98 M3. Is it true that a golf bag will NOT fit even if you take the driver out and slip it in by itself? I have sat in them before and at 6'2" it was pretty comfortable, a bit more bend at the kness than I like but not bad. Thanks for any input.

All I can tell you is that it is one badass car. Way more fun to drive than an M5 or M6, hell of a lot more fun than our e9X's too. I say get it! Of course it's not my money though so it's easy for me to say that.

I am kind of old school and love the sound of this motor. I like to be able to toss a car around w/o "engineering" trying to stop me. More of a raw and "hold on" driving experience.

That's a little high, imo - you might be able to get them down another $1-1.5k.
As for maladies, the Z4M is essentially an E46M3 with a better chassis. The '06s have had sporadic reports of grinding gearboxes on the 1st to 2nd gear change, which may or may not stop when the car is broken in. The gearbox is the 6-speed used in the E90 and 3.0si, because the transmission tunnel wouldn't fit the E46 M3 6-speed box (that;s why we didn't get SMG as well). Other than that Z4-specific issue, the car should have the same advantages and foibles as any other late-S54 car, sans the bearing problem. Oh, and people on the Z4 forums say a "carry bag" (whatever the heck that is - I shoot pool, a more civilized and intellectual pursuit ) will fit if you remove the drivers. That is one sweet car. That price looks pretty darn good already, but if it's their asking price, then you can always bargain it down a bit. Try to do it soon though 'cause spring is here and they may get a little more interest than usual.
Love that red leather! |

Thanks for the gear box issue heads up.
He is asking $36,450, which means my first offer will be $33,000. I will see were it goes from there. He said it has Sport/Prem pkgs. I did not think Sport was an option???? $35,000....I would be happy. The car is very clean. The owner seems to have really taken care of it.

It's NOT. Premium, Nav, extended leather, heated seats, that's pretty much it. Just about every car on a dealer lot has the premium package, nav is pretty common, extended leather is up there with a mint Honus Wagner card.
The source of confusion is the Sport button. On the standard Z4 it's part of the sport package, so when the salesman sees it on the M they assume the Ms have the same. |

Car looks great!
But honestly, that price is a bit steep for one with 17k miles. Search eBay, Cars.com, and Autotrader.com. I'm looking for the same thing, except an M Coupe, and there are STILL a few brand new 07s out there. Or 2007 cars with under 10k on the clock that can be had for mid/high $30's. A Bimmerpost member just sold his 07 AW/IR M Coupe with 5k on it for $37. If you can get him down to like $33k I'd do it. As for the golf clubs: my dad has an '03 Z4 2.5i roadster, and loves it. Just pulls the drivers out and takes it to the golf course each weekend. Go to your dealer (with your clubs) and test fit a Z4 roadster they have on the lot.

Great handling cars... i just thought the interior was too load for my taste. I wonder if the next M roadster will have the hard top vert. That would be sweet.

Thats a great car there for the money
It already took the first 1-2 year heavy hit. Jump on it. Im also 6-2 and feel snugg in the car,, but I like small cars. Im waiting to see the new Z4's,, they say they are quite bigger. |
