Amazon to sell cars online?

Well, doesn't look like it in the US yet. If it does come to other countries, this will absolutely destroy the dealership model. How would you guys feel about that option? Discuss.

I have no affinity for the dealership model. That said, how am I going to test drive and cross shop without dealers?

Most Italians are buying German cars these days. That's what I see on the roads in Italy now. Even the Autostrada Policia are driving Audi's and Subaru's now. I think they know that FCA has some quality problems.

I think it's like what most people do on Amazon. See a product in the store and then cross shop on Amazon! I know I'm simplifying it, but I don't think dealerships will completely go away. However, if Amazon is able to offer the same car for a fraction of the cost and you still get a factory warranty, why wouldn't you? Dealerships would then be forced into matching their price thus eating into their profits big time.

I find the entire car sales process revolting and obnoxious. From the sales people to the managers...all total low lifes. I would welcome something like this that throws a grenade into the entire dealership model.

If it's true I can't see it doing anything other than lowering the price for consumers so I don't mind.

Do you guys even have de slightest idea of the cost to run a dealership, of the real margins a dealership has on each car, on the pressure the brand makes on dealerships and the investment you have to put in to keep the standarts of a brand.
My guess is: no
And where will you get your car repaired then?

It is always easy criticizing if you know only one half of the equation.

There are currently many car buying services in the U.S., from Costco to AAA to True Car. All of them have the dealer still making money, price is ok to good but not as great as the person that really works at it and they didn't destroy the dealer network.

Car manufacturers only have to agree to what they want and if with current dealer laws and the need for some place to look at, test drive, repair the cars, take in trades and return leases, I don't see how Amazon will do all of these functions or why manufacturers would allow them to have it all.
