Have you cut the cord?
Anyone here uses antennas vs paying a monthly fee for TV? Thinking about getting antennas for each room in the house rather than paying for Comcast. We don't watch that much TV and usually only use the basic channels.
Have Amazon Prime and Netflix as well as Chromecast streaming off cell phones. Any recommendations on antennas? The one below is recommended by thewirecutter but the range of 25 miles seems a bit short. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HQ4BRIG...csubtag=WC5518 http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/bes...-hdtv-antenna/ |

The only reason I keep it around is for live sports (ESPN). Otherwise nothing interests me on Cable and even ESPN is garbage outside of live sports.

Cut it about 15 years ago. Don't miss it at all. But I could not care any less about sports. So there is very little I can't watch somewhere else. We have Netflix. That is the only thing we pay for, for tv things.

I absolutely hate paying for TV but since its $15 more a month to have the TV channels that I want with my internet package, might as well get it... I literally only want all of the propaganda news channels, TNT, USA, A&E, TBS and the usual ABC, NBC, CBS... could care less about anything else... oh an Netflix drives me crazy, I can never find anything good to watch.

I still have cable, but just got a FireStick and find myself using it more than my Fios cablebox. Athough, lots of features are unlocked with my Fios subscription (HBO GO, Showtime, etc). I assume i can purchase those separately though.

I pay for internet, use Kodi on my computer over HDMI cable ran to my tv, with a subscription to RealDebrid to get the better links and then I can watch whatever I want essentially through Exodus and Stream All The Sources (SALTS). Subscription from RealDebrid for the better links is 16 Euro per 6 months (depends on where you are located, would be dollars in the states). Most links I get are at least 720p, but the vast majority are 1080p, usually with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio quality. Don't need a powerful computer to run it, just a decent internet connection (which most people usually already have).

Did this a few years ago. I have a $50 powered antenna from GE it looks like a shark fin and was at Wal Mart. I mounted it outside at the rental house and was able to get all available channels in my area. I had to really work to get CBS, but it worked 95% of the time. When moving to the new house I figured I would need a new antenna, but I mounted the new one above the garage in the attic. It works great, I only have issues every one in a while at random a certain set of channels will act up, it only happens every so often. I have the one antenna and it is feeding three TVs. I have a special spliter that allows the power to go out to the antenna.

You can either stream from your desktop or buy a jailbroken amazon firebox with kodi on it.
Just google "amazon fire box with kodi".

A recent thread similar to yours: Ditch cable for Hulu/Netflix?.
I watch a lot of sports that are on local cable. Therefore, ditching cable would not work for me.

We just have internet. We ditched TV almost five years ago. I've been using this antenna for the last few years and haven't had any troubles:
https://www.amazon.com/Mediasonic-Ho...rds=tv+antenna The local channels come through crystal clear, so I can watch the news and most big football games with ease. And, for $8, it won't break the bank. |

I just canceled my cable service in favor of SlingTV. May help with people like me who are on the fence!

Like Irishsig said, it's an application that can be installed on a number of devices. Windows PC, apple iOS, jail broken Apple TV, Linux, raspberry pi, android. On their website, it has the downloaded, just run it and it will install everything for Kodi. However, it's just the application, merely a backbone for the addons to run so you can stream. That's where the second link comes in. Fusion is an addon that you can run and it will allow you to install Exodus/SALTs so you can watch any movie or tv show as long as there are sources. That's where RealDebrid comes in. If you subscribe, they can provide you with premium links where without it, you might have only got standard definition links or no links at all for something you were trying to find.
