2018 Honda Accord

2018 Honda Accord Unveiled With Turbocharged Four-Cylinder Engines

Quote:
Following a preview last month, Honda has officially unveiled the 2018 Accord.

Set to go on sale this fall, the redesigned sedan has a unique front fascia with a prominent grille that sits above a large lower air intake. The model also has a sculpted hood, a sportier roofline, and uniquely shaped windows behind the rear doors. Out back, the Accord features an integrated rear spoiler, LED taillights, and a dual exhaust system with chrome accents.

The exterior styling will likely prove polarizing but the cabin is different story as it features high quality materials and an upscale design. Once seated behind the three-spoke steering wheel, drivers will find a new soft-touch instrument panel, chrome accents, and an 8-inch Display Audio system with physical knobs for tuning and volume.

Elsewhere, Honda installed more deeply padded arm rests and improved seats with taller shoulder bolstering for additional support. Rear seat passengers will be grateful for the car's longer wheelbase which results in nearly two inches of extra rear seat legroom.

A variety of options will be available including heated and ventilated front seats as well as 6-inch head-up display. Other highlights include a wireless smartphone charger and 4G LTE connectivity.

Entry-level models will be powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 192 hp (143 kW) and 192 lb-ft (260 Nm) of torque. It can be connected to either a six-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission.

The Accord will also be available with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 252 hp (187 kW) and 273 lb-ft (369 Nm) of torque. A six-speed manual is available on Sport variants but most models will come with a new 10-speed automatic transmission.

Buyers looking for something more eco-friendly can check out the Accord Hybrid which features a 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle engine and two electric motors. Performance specifications will be announced closer to launch but Honda says the powertrain offers "improved power delivery with no compromise to interior or cargo space."

All Accords will benefit from a lighter and more rigid body structure which uses ultra-high-strength steel. This enables the model to weigh between 110-176 lbs (49.9-79.8 kg) less than its predecessor.

On the handling front, the 2018 Accord has been equipped with a new MacPherson strut front suspension and a more compact rear multi-link setup. Other highlights include an adaptive damper system and a lower center of gravity.

wow - its amazing what they've done to the Accord. They're making so much standard on cars in this price range now that I don't know how much longer luxury manufacturers can charge for basic options.

While I applaud manufacturers these days for uplifting the overall equipped features on standard options. I feel like cars these days that are in that range ($20k - $32k) have lost its characters. I see many resembles and copies of ideas on every single car. Don't get me wrong, I am not trashing the names of these automotive makers. I just feel like each car, regardless of its target market or pricing competitiveness should have more character of what the brand resembles and not what everyone else is doing.

Honda Quietly Kills The Accord Coupe

Quote:
If you're in the market for a mainstream mid-size coupe your options just got a lot more limited as Honda has reportedly confirmed plans to drop the Accord Coupe.

According to Roadshow, the introduction of the 2018 Accord will spell the end of the road for its coupe counterpart.

The news is hardly surprising as coupe sales were believed to only make up a tiny fraction of overall sales. The Accord Coupe's competitors have also been dropped as Nissan axed the Altima Coupe in 2013 and the Toyota Solara died an uneventful death nearly a decade ago.

Even the domestics have abandoned the once popular segment to focus on sportier models such as the Camaro, Challenger, and Mustang.

While it's sad to see the Accord Coupe die, fans can still pick up the 2017 model which starts at $24,125. Two different engine options are available and choices include a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 185 hp (137 kW) and 181 lb-ft (245 Nm) of torque as well as a 3.5-liter V6 cranking out 278 hp (207 kW) and 252 lb-ft (341 Nm) of torque.

All of these Japanese companies have been making some really ugly cars of late......
Lexus started with these ugly ridiculous grilles that are not distinct from the bumper.

I don't like this accord...........
the New Camry took some cues from BMW but was still cursed with that ugly front grille

I'd take the Fusion Sport or even the 2018 Camry over this. Only thing it has going that I'd be interested in is the manual trans option.
