C63 AMG Mercedes dead after 3500 miles
What do you guys think about this?
Do you think a car should get water damage from driving in the rain and getting splashed by another vehicle? |

A splash of water from another car shouldn't hydrolock your vehicle unless it was modified with a cold air intake, or something similar where the intake is more exposed.
It must have been a MASSIVE amount of water that hit his car. |

He said in the video he went through a puddle and a wave of water came towards his car leading to hydro-locking his engine. I guess said "puddle" was a little deeper than he thought. His engine didn't just die from getting water splashed on his car from either vehicles, it died from him trying to recreate the scene from James Bond in "The Spy Who Loved Me".

Dashcam would have helped prove his story.

Cautionary tale. I wonder what mods, if any, the car had. As for the intersection where he said the damage occurred, the municipality will probably have records as to how deep the water gets there.
This video by the same guy is interesting and ironic. Lots of water being shot around the engine. Coincidence? I have no idea.

I've watched his other vlogs on his channel. There was only an aftermarket spoiler and paint protection if I recall correctly. I don't think he had an aftermarket intake and the video seems to show stock intake. I've seen newer cars have the intake just under the hood towards the front and wondered about water ingesting into it. On older cars there is more plumbing to prevent water getting in before the air filter, the plastic resonating housing routes the air down and then back up to the air filter and maybe has some drainage at the bottom. Not so good for performance but safer.

Understandingly, he's a bit evasive in telling the whole story, but I think he knows it was a puddle. And, it seems as if the road wasn't obviously flooded and the road had other cars traversing, and the filter pics from the dealership didn't look too saturated? but I don't know what to look for in terms of tell tale signs for this kind of failure. I though you needed ounces of water to hydrolock, but it could be as little as a few tablespoons? I feel bad for him, crazy on a new car. |

I wouldn't be sorry for him, if anything this sad story will generate even more views to his YouTube channel, which consequently will bright more revenues to him. People see drama, people watch drama. I wouldn't be surprise if the whole thing was staged.

I've been in downpours where cars going through puddles splashed water onto my car all the way up to my windshield. So I can see how it could have ingested into his intake.

I've had water splashed onto my windshield all the time while driving in the rain but never had my car stall or the engine totalled.

Not sure why, but I find him to be really annoying.

I think he kind of says it at 7:30 when he uses the words "tidal wave of water". This isn't a splash from a passing car.

I get the feeling that he tried to drive through a puddle that was too deep and the intake gulped up the water.
He's trying to deflect blame
