RS3 Browsing Interest - Put off by Audi Dealer BS

I am a fast sporty sedan guy at heart and just love the look of aggressive sedans period. So cars like the RS3 would naturally spark my interest and I went to check one out at Fletcher Jones Audi, they had 2 that were listed on the web but when I called they were supposedly spoken for or ordered allocations so I went to Continental Audi that let me sit and look at it but as it was a sold unit awaiting delivery no drive was allowed which I totally understood.

Anyway I wont make this a review type of thing, or anything its silly especially without driving the vehicle. But my view on this is I have never owned Audi but have driven them extensively and to me they look good but are boring AF. My best friends B8 S4 was so dull we traded for a week and I was screaming for my f30 back. Anyway this would naturally put me in a state of wanting to drive an RS3 before a commitment.

Here is where it got sideways for me and I got put off. I asked about allocations and was told there are none and the wait is 12 months but a workaround would be European Delivery. I'm ok with that. But I inquired abut the amount of ED discount (knowing Audi is 5%) the salesman told me there is none in this case since its such a rare desirable product blah blah..I was like what the hell ever it has nothing to do with you it bypasses the dealer and 5% off is part of the ED deal. I hung the phone up politely and I was done with that guy at Fletcher Jones.

Fast forward at Continental where I physically went to see the Mythos Black RS3. The salesman was super cool and really helpful but I asked abut the ED program and he said we absolutely don't do that here I was like WTF.

Anyway what are your guys experience and thoughts.

Some pics for viewing attached:
I personally love the look of the car especially the interior, and the virtual cockpit was just sick.

I'm surprised these are even being delivered now. I thought the TTRS were first to show up and then the RS3 wouldn't be here until the fall

There's 5 in the Chicago area. I thought it was fall as well not sure.
Continental had 1 white TTRS on the floor. I literally just got a phone call from the other dealer stating one of the two is now available. I think it was bs to begin with. If these units are sold why are they listed on Auto trader and likes.

Some sales people are testing you out to see how thirsty you are. If you are serious and exchange info, believe me, they will call you back being more amenable and with lower pricing. Now obviously cars like the M2 and RS3 are hard to come by but this is typically a temporary state. The shoe then is on the other foot and you get to see how hungry they are to make a sale.

Your first mistake was trying to negotiate a desirable car from a guy wearing pinstripe-plaid pants.

LMAO I literally didn't even try to negotiate anything I was just inquiring about allocations and desired European delivery and got a BS run around.

And I know it’s a beloved five cylinder and has huge brakes available, but I think in this case I’d buy a lightly used 2015/6 S3, call APR and put a stage 1 tune on it. I realize it’s not the same amount of power but I think I’d have just as much fun and keep $30k+ in my pocket.

Definitely an option and I like the s3 like you as well. They have those things doing 11s with tune and downpipe that's pretty damn impressive

Yeah, but don't dealers list already sold units and/or incoming units (months away) to garner interest from the likes of us?

Its to get people in the door and to raise the hype. I was looking at Mustang GT350s 2 weeks ago when I was cross shoping the M4. Two dealers were certain you could not get them for less than a $5K markup, 1 dealer told me they were all spoken for and I found a dealer willing to do MSRP. I ended up not going the Gt350 route but not the dealer that wanted $5K up can get it for MSRP and the other can special order me one at a $5K markup. Thats a big change in two weeks. I expect next week for the one that said you can't even get them, to be able to get me one at MSRP.

I am sure with the RS3 and how new it is, they were hoping you would offer to pay over MSRP. There are people that do it. I bet you get a call in a few weeks with a different more relaxed tactic.

Fletcher Jones are a bunch of scumbags. I once had Audi NA launch an inquiry there that resulted in major disciplinary actions.

Mind if I ask....

Roughly how old are you? And what area of the country are you in?

Generically I'm asking about demographics, knowing some 'potential customers' will be treated better than others, and wondering where you fit into the mix.

Audis never appealed to me... latest styling makes it look even worse... shitty silver doodads stuck on the front bumper.. look like transformers.. and that cross-check patterned seat made me throw up a little in my mouth .. sorry..

Traditionally RS models and the R8 have been excluded from Euro Delivery discount.

Nothing new.

Agreed. Car manufacturers do this quite often, taking a base car then adding some performance for larger mark ups. However at some point the price doesn’t make sense for the type of car it is. At $60-65k you can have a very nice S4 or even A6 which looks more like a $60k+ car and less like an nice bauhaus econobox. And remember that the back seat is nearly there in name only. You barely have more room in the back than a 1 or 2 series. Funny though that’s it’s the same size as the older A4 class.

Me personally I would wait for prices to level out or go used/CPO later on. I think I’d be more interested at $50k.

You're not reading my post correctly. Nothing about a discount was in play we never even got to that point of a purchase. The subject at hand was European delivery and for a typical discount for us has been to get 5% (use to be 7%) off because we're hopping on a lufthansa plane spending time and money to come and enjoy the delivery. In turn the dealers are completely taken out the picture it's a direct transaction between us and BMW or Audi and all advertising and marketing costs are waived which makes up a rough percentage. Hell when the M4 came out I know @Golfffrrr was telling us they were doing European delivery MSRP even.

I had no idea Audi excludes RS models form even the euro delivery discounts. Bmw does not obviously and that's what most of us are use to.

I know bmw is a whole different subject in terms of ED but even when the much more desirable M2 came out last spring people on here were still getting their 5% off for taking delivery at the Welt.

I totally didn't know they exclude these models. In reality it really is up to Audi and the kick back that the German government gives them for the discounts in turn of attracting tourists.

And yes the dash board is very plain but everything else IMO makes up for it. The seats, the virtual cockpit and steering wheel are cool as heck.
