Yes, of course it's dangerous, and illegal in all Australian states, at least.

It's dangerous, and against the law. I do not want to image the fine she`ll receive if caught

I can't see what she's watching on the screen. Are you sure that isn't a portable nav unit? It looks similar to an iPhone but isn't it a little thick?

Considering the fact that she still has that sicker on the window pretty much sums up the character that's behind the wheel.

Not much to be concerned with or questioning at that point.

I'd say it's very concerning, actually. Would you count on this "character" to safely drive while watching a tiny video screen below her line of sight to the road? I bet she's also posted an Instagram (while driving, of course) about her cute and clever "lifehack".

She'd be ticketed for that in Texas if law enforcement spotted it in a school zone. Isn't California even more strict about video/text/calls while in motion?

Illegal and dangerous in the UK too. Not allowed to look at your phone while driving a vehicle.

Maybe my sarcasm didn't resonate well enough through my post.

Not much worse than the guy I saw driving to work the other day with a full newspaper unfolded across the steering wheel and dash. Lol

Always amazed me when I lived in CA how many folks leave that sticker on. I'd guess half the cars still have them. Mine were gone before I got off the dealer lot.

Sadly nothing that people get up to whilst driving surprises me anymore.
I frequently hear on my local news of police catching lorry drivers on the M20;
Driving with elbows
Driving whilst watching DVDs
Driving with feet
Driving whilst using a laptop
Driving whilst using a mobile phone
These people are 'professional' drivers

I myself when driving to work in my van have seen;
Women putting on make up/doing their hair
Texting/talking on phone
Eating
A dog on a woman's lap whist she was driving
One guy drove past us on the M2 wanking himself off...seriously
Drinking a can of larger whist driving on the M2

Idiots have to be entertained 24/7 by their iDumbass gadgets, it's pathetic.

Top down, long road, sunny day with the breeze blowing through the car is better than any shitty electronic gadget ever.

THIS is precisely why the race to autonomous vehicles is being pursued so diligently by so many parties.

As the OP's picture shows, there are people who will brazenly violate the law on a daily basis to do this. That carmakers are making multimedia interconnectivity a hallmark in current new vehicles only exacerbates this tendency in a number of ways:

Example 1: "My friend can use Siri with her new fancy car. I can't afford that kind of car, so I'll just do this instead!"
Example 2: "The navigation on my 5-year-old [insert model here] just sucks compared to Google Maps, and I don't even get traffic updates. Screw that; I'm just going to use Google Maps!"
Example 3: "Audiobooks? There's just no comparison to the real thing" ::hits home button, starts reading e-book on an iPhone 7 Plus ::

Now imagine all of the non-brazen people who would do this if it were legal and there was little to no repercussion for the behavior. Now imagine how profitable an autonomous vehicle that enabled those people could be.

I rest my case.

This could be a catalyst for bmw to add a play DVD in motion hud option. Would be much easier to watch a movie on the windshield. Hopefully with Dolby surround and 1080.
