What type of guy are you? *Vote. Don't lie please*
What type of guy are you? Please be honest. Its ok to be a fanboy or anything else.
Me? as much as I love my BMW, I can't stand biased fan-boys. Im straight on topic. If BMW does something stupid, they are stupid. If they do something good, they are great. Nothing more, nothing less. Just because I own a BMW, does NOT mean I will defend the BMW no matter what. What about you guys?

I have always wanted and loved BMW's however, I agree with your statement. If I see a ugly car I'm going to call it a ugly car no matter who makes it.
But serously do any of use really run a car company? I'm sure most of their decisions are based on a formula they have i.e. (tradition, history, future, profit...etc.) Last edited by JB 330ci; 03-02-2006 at 06:48 AM.. |

I'll buy whatever I feel is worth the money considering performance, styling, comfort, and price. I wouldn't automatically buy any car for it's badge. The only disagreement I have with BMW right now is the 5 series design, but I'm not as much of a hater as most people. I have no problem with the 6 series, 7 series, or the 3 series (rear and all).

I generally like any high performing non-sports car. CL55, CL65, SL55, SL65, Maclaurin SLR, are among my favorites in addition to the BMW 6 series, M5, (future) M6. Mercedes needs to update their styling a bit more--then I might like the E-class too. For sheer interior (and exterior) luxury, I love the Jags. Not the best performers or most reliable, but they look so good, especially on the inside. Lexus is not even a close second in my opinion. For my taste and needs, BMW does have the best all-around package in all of their cars. I imagine my taste will change when I get older, but for now I prefer BMW the most.

I'm a car whore. No loyalty to any brand. Over 16 years of driving and I've averaged a new car every 2 years - I get bored pretty easily. I base my purchasing decision on what's available, performance/cost ratio, overall look and "value." Value to me = personal judgement.
At the end what's the worse thing that can happen? You guessed it, replace the car and get another. BTW this is my first BMW.. my old Range Rover HSE doesn't count although it used the BMW 7 series engine, tranny, switch gear, etc.

Big BMW fan and have been for a looong time, but when it comes to it, I'll call them out for doing something with which I don't agree, eg letting Bangle and van Hooydonk design cars for them.
Fanboys bother me. Blind loyalty to a brand (or anything really) is just lame.

On becoming a "fan"... With other cars I've owned... I've become less enamored with them as time went on. For my new 325... every day I love her more and more....Hell, I even like her badge. She's new, so she hasn't accumulated any "junk in her trunk", either. |

IF the automobile industry would make MORE sporty REAR WHEEL DRIVEN CARS in the first place I wouldn't have been such a BMW freak....
That's why I love the 350Z, S2000 but I'm a big fan of Mitsu Evos And TVR is the way to go(but it doesn't have the reliability of a Porker) Best cars(when affordable) at the moment for me: TVR T350C or Tamora Porsche 997GT3(RS version thank you) BMW E90 saloon M3 as a daily driver. I'm looking for a 1999/2000 M coupe for trackdays OR change the whole subject and buy a '04 E46 M3CSL So I guess I 'm a pretty biased BMW freak(runs in the family ) BTW this is my 4th 3 series and 5th BMW.

I definitely wouldn't consider myself a BMW fan-boy, but I do like thier cars.
I don't care too much for their advertisements. Until recently, I hardly found a BMW dealership that had decent customer service. Furthermore, the last thing I wanted to do was be associated with the "typical" BMW driver. BUT, everytime I test drove a BMW I came away impressed. So, ultimately when I felt the time was right to get a nicer car I got a BMW. The newer styles really took a while to grow on me. I still don't care too much for the 7 series. The exterior has grown on me (only after the most recent exterior updates), but I still despise having the shifter on the steering column. The 5 series took a few months to grow on me, now I really like its lines. However, I liked the appearance of the new 3 series immediately.

I guess I'm a fanboy. They way BMW used to design/make their cars just made sense to me, so my passion is mostly for older Bimmers.
I don't understand those who buy BMWs for reliability. BMWs have never been known for being reliable, especially the post-computer-aided design built cars. E36s were the first CAD built BMWs, and once you get to know the inner working of these cars, you know they aren't meant to be reliable. Everything from the cluster needle mechanism to the engine cooling system to the subframe could fail. Pre E36 BMWs were designed using mathematical calculations and extreme testing to figure out how strong a component had to be, and then the engineers would double that standard for production. Even so I can count the totally bulletproof BMW models on one hand (eg E34 535 5spd). |
