Porsche is Testing a Cayenne Coupe

Quote:
And not just thinking about it, the design already exists within the walls of Weissach.

Porsche is playing with the potential of getting in on the dog-squatting-SUV-lookalike market with a cut up version of the Cayenne. Following the unveiling of the third-generation crossover, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume told Autocar the company is “thinking about” offering a Coupe’d version of the astoundingly popular model.

“We analyse different segments and this can be an option in the future. Today, no decision has been taken. We have to make a calculation and talk to our customers,” said Blume.

Porsche design boss Michael Mauer then added fuel to the fire when he revealed the design had already been completed as part of an internal project.

“As a design department, we’re always asked to come up with proposals,” Mauer was quoted as saying. “This is the most attractive part of the job: when the brand asks me to provide design ideas to visualise the product portfolio with no limitations of budgets. For each and every model, we have a lot of ideas. But there has to be a business plan. Yes, we’ve developed a lot of ideas.”

There is merit for such a project, with Mauer pointing towards the Panamera lineup which now includes the long wheelbase Panamera Executive and the new shooting brake Panamera Sport Turismo.

Porsche Cayenne Coupe Rival Of BMW X6 Still Undecided

Quote:
An internal project for the sporty SUV is already on the drawing board.

Now that the third generation Porsche Cayenne is out and about, it’s time to look at what the German sports car brand plans to do with the luxury SUV in the foreseeable future. In Frankfurt earlier this week, we saw the most powerful variant of the vehicle, the Cayenne Turbo with 550 horsepower (404 kilowatts), and a coupe-like bodystyle might be on the way as well.

Speaking to British publication Autocar, Porsche boss Oliver Blume has confirmed the company “is thinking about” a BMW X6-rivalling Cayenne coupe-SUV, but it has “not decided yet.” First, marketing specialists from the brand need to analyze whether such a model makes a solid business case.

“We analyze different segments and this can be an option in the future. Today, no decision has been taken. We have to make a calculation and talk to our customers,” Blume told Autocar.
In fact, Porsche design boss Michael Mauer has revealed an internal project for a Cayenne coupe is already on the drawing board, waiting for a final decision.

“As a design department, we’re always asked to come up with proposals,” Mauer told the publication. “This is the most attractive part of the job: when the brand asks me to provide design ideas to visualize the product portfolio with no limitations of budgets. For each and every model, we have a lot of ideas. But there has to be a business plan. Yes, we’ve developed a lot of ideas.”

Is Porsche going to further expand its portfolio with another model after the production version of the Mission E? Probably no, according to Blume. “We have had good growth in the last few years, but the number of cars is less important than the needs of customers."

I prefer this to the sport versions of the RR and the X6. The lines are cleaner and it doesn't look bloated.

I don't get it. How is this a coupe?

Designing a love child with a big SUV mother and an ultra-long shooting brake-esque sedan father doesn't spawn a coupe. It just doesn't.

At this rate, the continued bastardization of the word's definition will result in it not meaning a damn thing pretty soon, except as a semi-useless marketing term.

Porsche averages a profit of about $17,000 per car. They might know more than you.

It doesn't when it comes to word meaning. (By trade, I'm an editor and grammarian.)

Besides: It's not just Porsche. You know that as well as I do.

If we applied Porsche's apparent definition of a coupe, which seems to revolve around a shorter, lower version of a particular model (the Cayenne):

- Pretty much all GT versions made by BMW are coupe versions of X Series vehicles, and
- The 5 Series is a coupe version of the 7 Series, the 3 Series is a coupe version of the 5 Series, and the 1 Series in China is a coupe version of the 3 Series

All of which is bunk because BMW has its own liberal and significantly divergent 'coupe' definition, i.e. the Gran Coupe.

Explain to me how this makes sense etymologically?

Points then, since I'm not a word kinda guy! I meant that they're very profitable and regardless of their (or the industry's) naming convention, it's still a good move on their part!

I don't disagree with you one bit and as flummoxed as you are with the concept of a 4 door coupe.

P.S. Now you have me checking my grammar and digging into my SAT words!
