Canadians Using US wireless plans?
Starting next month i am going to be travelling and spending time allot in the US. Looking into the US plans and those seam to be awesome compared to what we have in Canada.
Wanted to know if any of you are on US networks but using the plans in Canada too. I left Fido as it was expensive for me to add a US data. Went with Freedom and my god the service for calling and data is crap. Unlimited in US was appealing to me but once ive used 1gb AWAY data that ive had, the speeds became so slow that I couldnt serve the net anymore. Now looking into an alternative.

Last year I went to Quebec on Sprint.
I got the text from the wife that the local PD was looking at me sitting on the curb when I went for my walk BEFORE the officer approached me. . . |

Problem with freedom I dislike the service in Canada. Night and day compared to fido but for 50$ i cannot complain. I'll try to call big 4 networks in US see what they can do for me. Just not sure how the service is from them in US and Canada. Dont want to jump from a bad service to another.

What plan do you have? My bill only went up 23 bucks when my daughter was in Japan.

Im TMobile which includes high speed data roaming in Canada and Mexico. And free 3G speeds in 100+ other countries. Very useful when I visit family back home in Canada, when i was in Australia on vacation and other places we travel, plus work travel. Great plan compared to what I used to pay in Canada.
Not sure what the limits are, but i assume that may be a problem depending on useage. |

I have kept my old iPhones, unlocked, and simply buy a low cost pay as you go sim wherever I go. A whole lot cheaper than using the international plan from my carrier. OP, If you phone is unlocked, buy a sim here in the US and go. Most carriers offer no contract plans, sign up and cancel when you return to Canada.

I have a friend from Vancouver BC who spends quite a bit of time maintaining his properties in the US (in Cleveland OH I believe). If you like I can ask him what he does for phone/data while here - whether he has a US phone or not etc.

Also used to do that when I travelled to UK, Europe, etc. but was never there frequently enough to keep an account active, just setup a new account everytime I was there. Now with TM's plans with free roaming, I no longer need to worry about that. If he's going to be in the US close to 50% of the time, i'd say it's worth at shot to try a US plan that includes free roaming to Canada. A tip is if you have family in the US on a T-Mobile family plan, it would be cheaper for them to add you vs going on your own. With a family plan of 5 lines, it was like under $30 per phone with the slightly older non-unlimited plan I am on. I think the new unlimited plans might be more a bit more but still big savings with multiple lines.

Wait, is it ATT in Canadia now and no longer Rogers Wireless? Or are we referring Rogers to parent company because no one knows who Rogers is anymore?
