Talking Took My Dog Camping for the First Time (Pic Heavy)

Apollo is a 3y/o Samoyed (90% fluff, 9% dog, 1% cat). He's been hiking with me many times but this was his first overnight backpacking trip. A friend and I went out to Seneca Rocks in WV, we were the only idiots on the entire mountain and the temperatures were well below freezing but we still had a great time.

Just figured I'd share the pics for any dog lovers/backpackers here that might appreciate them.

Sooo cool! I have a pomeranian that looks just like your dog.

Is it safe to take dogs camping? Always wanted to do that.

Nice dog but the crocs are priceless.

We take our great dane camping and he loves it! Never a worry about inconsiderate neighbors that track through camp sites.

Yup Pom's are like mini Samoyeds haha. It's completely safe just need to make sure they're up on shots and flea/tick repellent and train them to be ok off-leash or keep them tied to you. Apollo has been off-leash since he was a puppy so he never goes far enough that I can't see him and will always come back when I call.

Hahaha yeah my friend is an avid fan of crocs for camping but it was too damn cold (20F) to wear them!

Awesome! Cute dog and looks like a good time! I have a Pomeranian, and while she doesn't look like the typical ball of fur, she's mostly hair. I'm hesitant to take her camping or into the woods as she'll get dirty real quick. Also, I'm a bit worried about ticks/fleas and her eating something she probably shouldn't.

Hahaha nice. I have gigabit internet now so I rarely notice load times anymore. No more are we in the days of yelling at your parents for taking a call while a picture on the internet was finishing it's 10min load time

Pom's aren't quite as good for this kind of stuff as Samoyeds, but I'm sure she could manage!

Smart, if you get lost you have a protein source and you don't need to carry it.

He even carries extra

To be honest though, he would be completely worthless as a food source. He's much smaller than he looks at 43lbs, I wasn't kidding when I said he's 90% fluff! Looks completely different wet

Note how skinny his legs are lol

Lol, my dog's exactly the same (when wet). She doesn't even look like a Pom because of how tall and slender she is.

How often do you brush your dog? How's the shedding?

Also, what products did you use to aid with repelling fleas/ticks?
