Amazing E9 CSL DTM restomod video

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
What a great restomod and story too...

For those who don't know, restomoding is updating a classic car with modern parts. One example is the Singer 911.

This person used an e9 CS shell to convert it into a E9 CSL DTM look, with an US Spec e36 S50B30 (or 32) engine and a BIG turbo...

Better but wheels are neither stock nor period. Ditto steering wheel, gear shift knob, side mirrors and Hula girl. The CSi wasn't legally imported into the U.S. but this carries Euro plates (Germany?) so it's obviously not American.

An e9 is on my list to buy soon. This just wrecks the lines for me . The stanceworks looks better but I dont like the ride height/camber .

Relax people, he was not trying to do a restoration of a road going CSL, but emulate the RACING CSL's like this one from 1975 (Zandvoort race).

Someone doesn't know the details. The side grilles were chromed and underneath each of them was a black insert. To show the paint on black grilles deomstrates that the restorer has no idea what the original car was like.

Ugly. Not hideous. It's repairable.

As a recent E9 owner and enthusiast I agree this build went down hill. I love the CSL bodywork, wheels, and the paint color is nice. I don't understand the engine choice and the way the interior was designed. The dash and gauges are atrocious. The Nardi Classic wheel in a race car? It should be a leather wrapped wheel. Also the stock wood trim on the door panels! Another face palm...

Can't believe this was shown at SEMA with the interior being such a mess.

maybe try appreciating the work done instead of being so salty. You sound like a peach at car shows..

Taste is a very personal and sensible matter. Some will prefer to keep it as original as possible, some tranform it in a sleeper, some go further.
However, I can not ignore his passion, determination and amount of work. If he likes it, cool, bottom line, I take my hat off for his efforts.
