Did initial NBTs have CIC controllers?

Hi,

I noticed that a 2014 6-series I was looking to buy had a slightly different screen display. I did a quick comparison online and it appears it's a NBT system. However, the idrive controller is a CIC controller.

Is the system I saw indeed NBT?

Yeah, the earliest versions had the same CIC controller. Controllers with touchpad came like one year later or so.

Thanks for the confirmation. So the touchpad controller version, I presume got a software update as well for the functionality?

Can I simply retrofit the touchpad with no coding to gain touch functions?

I think it's a different head unit or something, not just a software update.
