2019 Corolla Hatchback

I prefer this over the civic. Comes with 6MT also.

Engines haven't been finalized yet may be a 2 liter replacing the 1.8. Would be sweet if it has a turbo. With Apple car play if they do a trd version that will be awesome.

Generally, it's pretty sharp for an econobox. Toyota's getting edgy. This and the new Camry (which is the best-looking one in history, IMHO) bode really, really well for the production GR Supra ...

... but those fake exhaust slits -- they're not vertically tall enough to even be called 'outlets' -- are hilarious. Yeah, try to make a fart can fit in one of those!

It’s like everything else Toyota does. The FRS could be awesome with an extra 50 HP but the hey don’t do that despite all the feedback. This looks cute but will barely move out of its own way.

250-280hp and I'd be in this thing real fast for a commuter car.

Honda really messed up w the looks of their cars this gen (hatch, wagon looking)... the civic and accord are somewhat atrocious however they are still good cars. However, if Toyota makes halfway decent looking cars, this will be an easy win.

But only ones that are basically street-legal race bikes (equivalent to a GTR/Ferrari/Porsche GTx, etc.) and/or ultra-juiced cruisers (equivalent to a Hellcat/Trackhawk/Aston Martin).

This is a Corolla.

Puh-leeez, people. Don't be ignorant. Context, people. Context!!!

Context is fine, but 137hp is dumb, especially when combined with natural aspiration and lack of low end torque. The current one is at least 2,943 pounds too. That's 21.5 lbs/hp. Barely better than the sad Mazda2 Yaris iA at 22.5.

A Civic has at least 174hp and loads more low end torque, all while being as much as 100 pounds lighter. So between 16.0 and 16.2 lb/hp for a manual hatch. That's a whole different league.

A much cheaper Fit makes similar power, 130hp, but is 400 pounds lighter, so it's got 19.6 lb/hp.

Both the Golf and Mazda 3 offer similar power to the Civic at similar weights. Toyota needs more powah.

BMS might be able to come up with something if Toyota will put a turbo engine in the corolla. I think they have a tune for the IS200t. Would be awesome if Toyota dropped that power plant in the Corolla. That engine is a little weak for the is but would be great in the smaller lighter corolla hatch.

Yeah. With Nissan throwing the goofball variable compression motor from Infiniti in the next Altima, Toyota needs a turbo.

Considering what TMC has done with the WRC-inspired, supercharged Yaris GRMN in other markets -- but not for the U.S. market -- it's well within Toyota's capability to make a 'hot' Corolla to compete with the likes of the Civic Si, etc.

In fact, I would put money down that Toyota does this -- but not immediately -- with the Corolla here. That said, the Corolla fills a different niche here than it does elsewhere, and it very well may not bring a 'hot' Corolla to the U.S. for the same reason it did not initially bring the GRMN here.

Everyone on this board (I hope) realizes that small hatchbacks do not sell in the U.S. Small 'hot' hatchback sales are even worse. That said, Toyota is plainly jumping into a more aggressive styling niche that, Civic Type R notwithstanding, Honda has all but vacated with its recent products. I think that increases the chance we'll see a 'hot' Corolla in the U.S. I'd call it 50-50 right now ...

... and I'd also be willing to bet that both a GRMN derivative and a 'hot' Corolla might very well be branded as a GR, not a Toyota.

I, too, think the new camry is a great looking car for that market!

Hopefully they have a sporty version with an excel of 250hp.

Seems like domestic companies are having HP wars
German companies - Feelingzzz wars
Japanese companies - ???
