2018 M Track Days!

Hey guys - I did the 2017 program at COTA and thought it was fun.

The event was thoroughly reviewed by others on bimmerpost. Not a traditional track day or even an M school experience but, in summary, a nice showcase of the current M car lineup at a number of cool track venues. The sessions are well orchestrated with a diverse array of activities (lead follow lapping, autox, drag racing, etc) good food and a swag bag. Not to mention a discount offer on a new car.

The program opened up in mid April last year (I got the email invite on the 19th). I checked the website a few days ago and saw the attached "2018 Coming Soon" but now the site is down.

Anyone know if the release is upcoming? I'm hoping for a new venue or two on the East Coast (VIR, Watkins or Lime Rock would be cool) or a repeat of Monticello.

Update:

They're back! It's official. Just registered for Monticello in August.

I agree, this was a fun day. My wife and I did it at Thermal in 2016 when it was free, but even when they started charging I think it's definitely worthwhile, especially if you've never tracked a car before. It's their car, their tires, and their gas, so considering that, the cost is nominal, especially when they throw in a lunch and the swag bag. I would strongly encourage anyone who wants a taste of track driving to sign up for this (if they bring it back!)

Some local chapters of the BMW CCA offer a similar event called a "Performance Center Experience" or something akin to that which offers the same type of exercises at a comparable price. Again, all the same perks. If you're not a member of the BMW CCA you should sign up, it's worth it!

Thanks SD - agree with everything you said. I’m covered personally as a long time CCA member (15 years) and over 30 club HPDE days in my M3.

These M track days represent an excellent toe in the water for a first time track driver or, in my case, a cheap way to test drive the new M offerings harder than any dealer would permit. And best of all, you can drive them all in a half day on a closed course...

Nope - open to anyone. There are CCA events like these but they are a little different and actually cost more.

I contemplated doing back-to-back sessions at Monticello last year but was sold out.

These events were only half day, all CCA events are full days (I mean who wants to only drive 1/2 day )

There is also this option - not an M track day, not an M school but likely something in between. It's an entire day for $750 rather than the half day for $250.

I received this invite a few weeks ago but I think it's organized in a football stadium parking lot...not very enticing to me.

That's at FedEx Field right now for UDE. Not sure why they charge so much but some people said it was fun. I prefer a real road track

That was my next question, thanks for clearing that up.

Palm Springs weather is great at the end of Oct./beginning of Nov. That's the beginning of the busy season.
