I want a bike...YAMAHA r6

Hey there folks who here owns one?

Ive been looking around and i really like the r6 i think its the nicest with the best performance and such.

Anyways i want to get it for cruising and stuff, not to learn tricks or push it to the limit. I know if i do i will kill myself with it.

I have about 7 friends with a bike so it doesnt make anything easier.

Anyways whos got more info on these bikes...whats the best option buying one new for like 130 a month?

or buying a used one...they have real good resale value so either way im not to worried.

How long did it take everyone to learn?

My dad use to have a suzuki gsxr 750.

Im kind of nervious to get one but i really want one.

I just need more feedback.

lol I'm in the same exact boat as you...I was looking at MSF to start taking classes and I want an R6 also! I want one used though b/c then I wouldnt feel so bad if it got messed up when I was learning. But I am scared shitless though...my friend works EMT and tells me all kinds of crap. I guess I need to get more comfortable?

BRO U need to learn to respect the bike and it will respect you....

Thats the main thing you need to do..and you need to be real focused it is not a joke!!!

Trust me you will not need anything above 600cc EVER. People with the 1000 or 1300 cc bikes are nutz!!!!!!

mine is for sale

the following contribute absolutely nothing to your thread, just something i noticed..

R6's are most ridden by Asians...

White guys ride Suzukis GSXR

Black dudes ride Kawasaki

And mix crowd ride CBRs

I've owned 5

It's a great bike, that was also my first bike...and i taught myself how to ride...using instructions from the internet...

you get 35mpg if you ride hard, 40-45 if you just cruise...engine is strong and reliable..

looks killer, esp with HIDs

Forget the bike and stick with a car. Safer. You may be a great rider, but every one in a car IS out to kill you. I think i have a minimum of one incident per ride. I won't bore you with storys...

BTW I have ridden for a long time and have 2 bikes now a 2003 HD Softail and a KTM 250XC (dirtbike) I'm thinking of selling both.

I did own a Kawasaki ZX6-R (600cc) and a Yamaha YZF-R1, so I'm well versed in sportbikes.

I'd like to use my HD for commuting, but my ride to work is 66Mi each way and all highway, not the safest place to ride. I mostly ride local and off road. I fall off my dirtbike a lot and hit trees and rocks, think I should give that up ASAP.

If you do go forward, the R6 is more than enough bike for you. And I'm happy to see you pick a 600 for your first.

Take the MSF course and read Keith Codes trist of the wrist II (the second in the series). Lot's of GOOD material in it!!!!!!

I never took the MSF course, but you should!!

Oh, did I say stick with cars?

It's very easy to learn, but I'd definitely recommend a MSF course - well worth the money and effort and it's a lot of fun too. As another poster said, riding a street bike is not a joke and needs to be taken very seriously. I personally don't think anyone under 25 should be riding a street bike, especially a crotch rocket. The maturity and respect just isn't there yet in 99% of kids under 25 - and 25 is even pushin' it. All that said, motorcycles are quite a blast...

I started riding dirt bikes at age 6. After being run off/cut off/hitting sand/whatever, I have not been on a bike in over 10 years. I love them and always will. The fact is they can land you in a world of hurt. Blink on a bike and.....

I want a woman that doesn't talk all the time but I am not going to get one. j/k kind of.

That being said, and with no offense, don't you have a thread saying you have rear ended someone twice already in your car?

I could put this in my living room and just stare at it though.

My next toy.

I wanted an R6, but instead opted for something more unique.

starting off on an R6 is almost foolish unless your smarter than the average squid, but like others, your mind is made up, it's too hard to resist the image and the machine.

but even more daunting is riding with 7 friends who have more experience than you do, you'll want to keep up and that could put you into uncomfortable situations, it only takes ONE corner to wad it all up.

too many bikers buy over their head, see or get into an accident and never ride again which is too bad since riding is a lifelong, soulful endeavor.

I've ridden and raced for a long time and seen many a Sunday afternoon turn ugly but the ride keeps me coming back. stay safe, enjoy it, there's nothing else quite like carving a corner well on a sportbike.

i do like the r6 looks as well. but pretty much all the big 4 600cc bikes all perform quite well. so to say the r6 is the best performance doesn't make sense. since they all perform quite well, it's really up to you on which one you like. i do have to comment that the r6 is probably the least street bike daily driver of them all. it has the lowest torque of the big 4. it's a great track bike tho. oh and yes take the msf course. here's my 750.
