Costco Gas?? Is It Legit Or Cheap Ass Arco

I was just wondering if anyone had info on where costco gets their gas. I've been filling up there premium is about $4.50 right now that is way cheaper than shell or 76 at the moment. Please chime in! I want to know if its all goods or no good at all

Costco gas comes from the same source as Chevron, Texaco, Shell, etc.. The difference is those gas stations add their own propietary additives. Costco changes their filters quite often.

I doubt it's any different, people are just paranoid or buying into the absurd idea that oil refining companies are putting out there.

I've bought into the marketing hype.

Nothing but Top Tier approved fuels find their way into my BMWs.

Too bad thats exactly what top tier is, a private organization funded my auto manufacturers and gas companies.

I spoke to one of the Costco managers and that person said the same exact thing.

i dont feel any difference when i put in costco gas but i still prefer shell

my dad would always put in 93 octane from shell and costco if money was ever tight, but now hes "protesting" against OPEC and is filling up at wal-mart because they only drill in the USA

is that true?

(sorry for thread jacking)

Actually thats almost true.

Costco buys their gas from local suppliers that will charge them the cheapest rate. In some areas that may be Shell, others it may be Chevron, etc. And it can change from week to week.

In WA it's been known that a few Costcos get their gas from Shell, while other ones down the road get theirs from Texaco.

In the beginning, Shell sold really bad gas. They even had lead in their gas. After, the choose to remove lead from their gas and their gas was still bad. So, bad that there was a class action lawsuit filed in Canada because Shell gas damaged a lot of the engines. Then, Shell changed and they changed their formulation and Shell was only an okay gas company. I think shell was at its best when they sold their high mileage gasoline as I truly believed Shell gas lasted longer than the rest. Now, shell advertises it as above Top Tier in Canada. Yeah, like it's even better than Chevron and the rest of the Top Tier gas stations. Hmmmmm..... let me tell you... their gas sucks now. I get worse mileage with Shell and less torque than Chevron. Shell gas has gone downhilll!
