2018 MLB playoffs
If Redsox win this series, Joe West is MVP. He called fan interference on a Altuve HR. So why wasn't the fan ejected from the game?

C’mon, how does he not call interference when he sees a fan (and probably 2 fans) touch the glove of a player? Went to replay and there is no clear evidence the ball left the park before the interference to overturn. The guy (and actually at least a couple of guys) were reaching out to catch the ball. Watch them compared to the guy wearing a red shirt.
If you don’t want to cause your team to lose a hit / home run and cause an out, don’t do anything that comes close to interference. Kimbrel gave them every chance to come back and win. They just didn’t get it done. Great catch by Benny to close it out.

But did they actually reach into the playing field, or was the fielder over the fence into the crowd?
None of the replays I saw CLEARLY demonstrated they were over the fence, into the playing field, so they don't get ejected. Machado, on the other hand, should have been GONE for dragging his foot over Aguilar. Machado has been watching too much futbol. |

The call on the field was interference, which was entirely reasonable given that at least one fan (and I think really two fans) hit his glove. To overturn, there needed to be video evidence the clearly did NOT cross into the field (not vice versa). There is no such clear evidence, in part due to this guy, an Astros security guard.

If a player goes into the crowd, in fair play, the player is taking a risk. Interference can't be called. Only when a fan reaches over in fair play. As the video clearly shows Betts left arm goes back, into the stands, and his glove hits the fans hand. Causing his glove to close. I still would like to know why wasn't the fan ejected, if he interfered with with the play? The best angle unfortunately for the Astros was blocked by Security. That was a crucial bad call, as Houston lost by 2. I give it to Benny for a great catch. Should be interesting how Price performs tonight. Is Sale ready and healthy for a possible game 6? So far a pretty good series.

What stinks is if Boston wins, and LA wins, Travel, game time, and weather should be interesting. Will all games start at 10 in the east cost when in LA? Boston will have the advantage playing in the cold. I say Boston will win the series in 6.

The fan probably didn't get ejected because it would be a contractiction for Houston to eject him. They can't argue he did nothing wrong on the field and then eject him. If they ejected him, then they would admit they have no basis to argue the call. The call was in the first inning. Houston allowed 8 runs. It wasn't that crucial. I'd say Kemp's bad decision to try to stretch to a double late in the game was more crucial. Kimbrel gave Houston every chance to win the game but they couldn't get it done, even with the bases loaded and their best player hitting.

I thought Boston was Dunn like Warrick but in a way I’m glad The Sawx are on the verge of eliminating the Asteroids. IMHO, they have been somewhat cocky.

I'd argue it was Boston that got robbed on that play. The fans reached into the field of play causing Betts to not be able to make the catch. Had he been permitted to make the catch, he could have doubled up the base runner at first base.

That was one play in one game. Houston lost 4 games to 1. Sox were the better team.

The video shows Betts jumping before he got to wall, I agree. Then how did Betts glove make contact with the fans, if his arm wasn't in the stands? The fans never reached over the yellow line above the wall. It's not up to Houston to eject a fan, it's a MLB policy. In fact, it's on the back of the ticket. Anyhow, on to the World Series for Boston.

At least Astro fans were smart enough to avoid coming close to interference on Mookie’s catch last night. Game over. Series over. Sox get a few days of needed rest ahead of WS. If Sox play L.A., east coast will be fortunate that games in L.A. will be Fri / Sat / Sun (if necessary). Hopefully L.A. - Milwaukee goes 7 games, with these last 2 going for lots of extra innings.

Ball was out of play, 'nough said. MLB needs gps tracking on every play, not just balls/strikes.

My cousin was in their AA team back in the day 1992-1994 as a pitcher but never made it to the big show. Fastball wasn’t fast enough.

I love the game of baseball, especially the catcher position. I play in a league, and some of my teammates were drafted by professional teams. Unfortunately, not all made it. However, being involved in sports, over time I made friends with former, and current MLB players. Unfortunately the game has become how hard you throw, and how many HRs can you hit.
