Thumbs down Cell phone makers intentionally weakening battery life with OS updates

I'm tired of the bs these companies do with intentionally weakening battery life to force you into a new phone.

We all know Apple got caught doing it. My S8+ now magically has shit battery life after the latest updates.

We, as the consumer, need to end this bs.

Agreed, I just ran the update for Android and now I'm always having to charge it. Did a 15 minute drive from an airport this morning with GPS and Bluetooth running. Was at 100% when I left and 78% when I got to the airport in a whopping 15 minutes.

I've noticed my battery life isn't what it used to be just a few weeks ago. I pulled my phone from the charger at 6:00 am this morning and it is already on the charger at my desk.

It takes battery power to send info on everything you do to data mining companies for profit.

After getting my iPhone 7 to ios12, I lost functionality to use it as a phone (microphone doesn't work anymore), battery is stuck at 1% for the last two weeks yet it doesn't shut down (though it is plugged in all the time), all in all a simple update utterly destroyed my phone

The apple thing was it slowed down the phone if was having problems with battery life and didn't tell anyone. After the new updates, they make it very clear what is happening and you can disable the speed limiter if you like.

Apple also made good by offering replacement $30 new batteries for iphone users so you can get max performance on older phones. Then they introduced iOS 12 which actually speeds up performance on older iPhones.

The extra processing new features do and degrading battery does play a factor.

One of the reasons Apple had given for reducing processing power is because the degraded battery causes instability or more crashes. Soo now you can choose your poison.

I got a Moto Z Play2 last year to replace my Droid Turbo. I'm figuring that once the internal battery starts going to hell, I can use one of the battery pack mods to keep it going.

I only see low power mode after updating and that has been around for awhile.

Guess I might be the only one who got better battery life after an iOS update, went from around 6 hours of on screen time to 9 hours of on screen time

I have an iPhone 6s plus. The photo quality is so much more grainier than it was when I first got it. I can compare my photos from two years ago and see the difference.

I don't have a bunch of crap on unless I'm using it. I'm using wifi all the time. Are you going to pay for my data?

turn off location services, background refresh, email change to manual, etc...

You can charge your iphone for another 45min after it reaches 100 it will last longer. Typical battery drop in airplane mode is 3-5 hours per %, but it takes almost 1 day to go from 100 to 99. This I have tested on 4S (7.1.2, 9.3.5), 5S (7.1.2), SE (11.4.1) and 8 (11.4.1).

Must be an iPhone thing. I don't have location, email, etc on unless I'm using it at the time

Or maybe you just don't have the option to turn it off when you're not. I would bet that Google is tracking you even when you don't have their apps open on Android.

I never had to resort to crap like that, and if I did, I would likely not be happy about the extra hassle of having to turn stuff off and then back on.

The battery life decreasing with update seems like an Android thing, Apple has it's own separate issues.

Yes, I have the option. I use widgets to turn that stuff on & off on the fly.
