Just wondering what people think, especially when compared to Mazda Signature edition with all options, Napa leather, 19in wheels etc? I mean besides the obvious one is Porsche and the other is Mazda, but I think both cost about the same, both look pretty good, both are performance oriented, Cayenne is nicer inside, Mazda has alot more options

I'd argue resale 3yrs on the Mazda will be $22k with 35k miles. true the Porsche would do greatly better, when compared to maint costs on the Porsche that question wipes out any gains

Good luck getting any sort of decent resale from a diesel VW group vehicle.

My fiancees parents have a Cx-5 touring and it is surprisingly nice on the inside- all the metal trim is actually metal- the dashboard is covered in faux leather I was very impressed (and I'm a bit of an interior snob).

Lol. Cayenne diesels have held their value quite well now that they are out of production for the US and the diesel scandal is over.

Its a damn shame we never got the Diesel S in the states. Gnarly engine.

And all reviews say 2019 is even better, Napa leather, heated and cooled seats, Android auto, all the good stuff.

As far as resale, new Mazda will depreciate alot, but Cayennes with miles are also worthless I am looking for one with about 50-60k miles or so. By the time I am done with it it will have around 100k.

I like Mazda but all the grandmas driving it is a big turn off Cayenne is much more special

And you will easily make up or exceed that amount in the cost for service and parts for the Porsche

I like the looks of the Porsche and am a diesel fan as I have a MB GLK Blutec. Comfortable and gets great economy. I actually traded mine in for a newer model in October and got a decent trade in allowance for it. Don't know if that's helpful.

Like others have said the Porsche will depreciate less, but those maintenance costs are gonna be a b*tch. It'll probably even out at the end.

Apples and oranges. Porsche maintenance costs aren’t as bad as people make them out to be. Repairs can be expensive but I think the diesel has an 8/120 warranty.

I spent the extra $2000 and got the extended warranty....money well spent given that my last MBs transmission needed to be replaced at about 60,000 miles, just out of warranty.....so glad I didn't have to pay for that.

I'd take the 1,000 pound lighter car unless 90% of your miles will be in the highway. Fat cars suck, consume gas, brakes and tires much faster than lighter cars.

Aside from the novelty (or stupidity) of the handful of original Cayenne GTS with manuals, I've never understood the appeal.

We have a 2017 CX-5 GT which is my wife's DD. It definitely feels and drives above it's price point. With the new Signature package, it improves on the majority of our 2017 shortcomings

Not as bad as they seem? Even oil changes are like $350+ on most of the Porsches! I think our first service for the Macan was ~$350-370 (she wouldn't let me do the service myself). I believe the 2nd service runs over $600 for basic items. If you can go a smaller indy shop you could save some money, but overall they're still higher than most MP brands.

Honestly I don't understand why so many people like the older generation Cayenne (<2018 MY). We had a 2017 Cayenne Diesel as a loaner last year and I was not impressed at all. Felt like an old chassis and the diesel was rough.

I do agree they're not really comparable tho. There's things each of these vehicles do well and not so well. I think the OP would have to provide more information about use before giving a proper suggestion.

I understand that Porsche is now considered one of the most reliable brands you can buy. But, if something goes wrong, they are not cheap to fix.

I think Toyota Lexus and Mazda top reliability charts, but Porsche isn't that bad either, Diesel is probably the most reliable of them without the air suspension. As far as maintenance, I think it will be alright, I have many Indy shops around, oil change should be $100 bucks it's a regular VW engine, can probably service it at local Audi dealer as well. Sometimes I service my Lexus at Toyota, last time plugs were half the cost vs Lexus

My use, just a nice SUV to carry a kid with stroller definitely can't be on the slow side too. I wouldn't even consider Mazda, but new 2.5t engine should be good enough for me. I would have to be honest that the only thing that stopping me from buying Mazda is the fact that all old farts driving it and it's everywhere, where as Cayenne Diesel I can't even find in my area for a reasonable price.

An oil change is $150 at Porsche-only indy shop here. Of course you're going to get raped going to the dealer. 40k service is the expensive one, usually around $1000 at indy, $2k at dealer. Other than that, everything is going to be in the same ballpark as BMW/Mercedes/Audi, so if you're used to spending on German cars it's going to wind up about the same.

Obviously any German car is going to seem like expensive maintenance compared to a Japanese brand, but I feel like most people just think a Porsche is going to have some astronomical maintenance cost when that's not how it is, assuming you have a capable indy shop nearby. At least my Porsche's were bulletproof and had zero major repairs, can't say the same for any of the BMW's I've owned. Owned 2 911's plus a Cayenne Turbo, my dad has a Panamera S, and combined we have had zero repairs over $500. Meanwhile every BMW I've owned has something leaking or breaking every two months. Love my M3, but it'll be the last BMW I ever buy.

I had a 2013 Cayenne Turbo that was insanely loaded with options/Akra exhaust/600HP tune and it was one of the best all-around vehicles I've ever driven, and damn fast for a 5000 pound SUV. Too bad some idiot totaled it.

my parents have a CX-5, i was impressed with the car overall for the money. I wouldnt touch a used Cayenne personally unless the looks were what you are after.
