Disappointed with fellow BMW owner
Ever since I was born, im pretty sure i've been a BMW enthusiast. My dad has owned over 15 BMW's since he came to this country 30 years ago, and ironically I was taken home from the hospital in a red e30 m3 the day after being born back in 1987
![]() So, just like most of you whenever i see a bmw, even if its a E30 325 with rusted door panels and a bungy cord hold down the hood, i still acknowledge the driver; show respect. And most of the time i receive acknowledgment from other bmw drivers also. But tonight there was a turn of events when i spotted a E92 m3 while driving. Ended up being that we were both heading in the same direction so i pulled up next to him. Young guy, early 30s with some girl. For a good mile or two he didnt even look over. Finally at one of the lights he took a glance over and gave me the coldest look. i would expect someone driving a e92 m3 would at least give a head nod. Whats up with that? Is it just me or is BMW attracting different type of people or has it always been like that and I have just been biased. Help me DR.PHIL HELP |

Sorry, but BMW has sold a crap load of cars in the US over the years. If I ackowledged every BMW driver on the road I would be nodding like crazy. And not all of them are enthusiasts, some just drive them because....so, don't take offense, some people are just indifferent.

Some BMW owner in front of me on the way to work yesterday, decided to spray windshield washer fluid all over me. He could have done it while we were at the stop sign, but waited till 50 mph

Ehh Ive given so many bmw owners thumbs up in return to not even get a glance. I've just given up completely. Theres no bond between MOST bmw owners, half the people who drive them dont even know what they've got.

The fact is that most BMW owners do not share most of our enthusiasm for the brand. I think you will find this with any luxury / exotic brand though. Alot of people just want to drive the hottest thing they can get their hands on, and more importantly want to be noticed.
Las Vegas just started doing Cars & Coffee about a month ago, of all the brands represented BMW has one of the weakest showings. I have yet to see a Merc show up at all. Its because most of these owners could care less about meeting up with fellow enthusiasts, let alone returning a thumbs up or nod while driving around |

I know its just a car, but he def. knew what he was driving and def knew what i was driving. I get smiles, waves, head nods all the time from MILFS, dads, ....hot college girls lol |

Ha, I hear you, sometimes people are clueless and its like someone should come and take their Bimmer away from them and give it to someone who understands, especially with an M3 ... then again if that Main Line you live on is the same one I live on (Philly burbs?) its not all that surprising.

Is this thread serious? You are upset because a driver in M3 gave you a cold look and now question whethere your faith in the mark has been misplaced? Comon... why should he even aknoledge you? I mean.... I dunno what to say, I never ever 'show respect' to people driving some BMW here - we have so many that its just silly and sure, if I see some kind of cool car in my eyes I'd give it a nod (like some prestine condition Austin Mini from early 60s - I mean that car has character in my eyes) but M3 E92 (just 3 series coupe with biger wheels and bodykit and V8)? Big whoof. Hardly worth a glance. nice car it is, and nice BMW at that but I get more excited by Z4M coupe for example (just aesthetically)... So to wrap up my babbling - take it easy.. if the respectul nod back is what you looking for, you'll be dissapointed again and again.. If you must, acknoledge and don't expect reaction back. Makes life so much easier that way!
![]() Oh and pricks buy BMWs too, even though most pricks now shopping at Audi dealers. ![]()

+1. there are way too many BMWs on the road for their to be a sense of camaraderie like their might be for motorcyclists or exotic car drivers. if i saw another m3 on the road i might give a nod, but if i went around nodding or waving to every bmw owner, i would crash for sure. especially in germany, bmw is everywhere. go figure.

Don't assume that everyone who doesn't nod back is trying to be an ass. I know I've failed a few times because I was thinking about something else and the nod didn't register until it was too late.
And I have to agree with a few of the other posts. You see BMWs ever 3 feet in most places. |

Oh, I hate that when people do it in front of me. Twice that happened to me this weekend. If I make eye contact and if it is friendly then I respond back. Sucks to have the type who is competative that they would make enemies than friends.
