Smile The Home Decor Thread

I know there are members here who enjoy: Cooking, Yards, and things related to HOME. I really and I mean REALLY enjoy Home Decor! And handle about 90% of our home decoration and furniture. I also enjoy going to to Open Houses and to see how interior designers do what they do and staging. And of course I love going to Furniture and Home Improvement Stores. It's all about being "inspired".
So, let's share and discuss Home: Art, Furniture, Lighting, Mirrors, Vases and all of those little things that make a Home your Castle...

Our grand entryway. Which includes Credenza, Chandeliers, Vases and Artwork

They make some beautiful homes in Texas.

In the Northwest it's overwhelmingly cookie cutter bs. Land is so expensive that they don't go crazy with exquisite materials and themes.

Thanks! There are tons of Builders here. I was talking with a realtor friend of mine who has worked in West coast and East coast markets as well as here I. TX. He says there are more builders and variety of home styles here than abroad. I was actually surprised.
But there are absolutely tons to choose from here.

Haha! At Home is great. And if you've never been to a Nebraska Furniture Mart, that place is awesome.

I have nothing to offer that way, living in a condo.

I'm in search mode right now for wall decor - metal wall art, canvas prints. I don't know.

We moved into the house a year ago this week. We tore down a few walls, replaced the cabinets and granite in the kitchen, gutted two bathrooms, replaced the stair case.... But all we were going to do was paint.
Houses are so expensive here. What I "wanted" was way too expensive. I'm too old to have a stupid mortgage, so we decided location and property size was the most important.

Anyway, the furniture is pretty much done with the exception of the dining room which remains empty until I find something I really like. I've been looking everywhere for things for the walls. I haven't found anything I really like at the brick and mortar stores so I've been scouring the internet - Art.com, Houzz, Wayfair, It's exhausting.

I was going to recommend Art.com and Houzz before I got to the end of your post. I collect anything old that has patina. To me it's quite interesting to think of the people that used those items, what kind of people they were, what they were going through in life, etc. I frequent old junk stores a lot and buy anything that speaks to me.

My home is pretty modest and small, but it's nice....and paid for! I'll post some pics up later but it's a typical home of a male that lives alone and has a dark side.....we're not talking a dungeon BDSM basement though........yet.....

I'm the same way. Both of the ex-wives told me that I should have been an interior designer. This is where moddie comes in and makes more homophobic comments in 5....4....3....

Anyway, beautiful home man and well done on the decor. You have a good eye and nice taste.

On a spectrum, we can't be more different in taste and design style Marcus. There is not a single piece that is "new" in our home without a long history (except the furniture we sit on), or a piece of artwork that wasn't painted by an artist friend or without a crazy story.

I really have to say though that I sincerely admire your passion for making a really nice and comfortable home for your family! Well done

I have an old Singer metal sewing machine stand. I need to find someone to do a nice wood top for it so it can be used as an end table. I also have an antique wind up Victrola record player I need to have refinished.

You need to take a 71 minute drive to Lambertville and visit our friends Gene and Kim at Funk and Junk. They do some fun custom re purpose work.

I'll play.

My husband says that when I die while moving some obscenely heavy piece, he'll just finds himself a contemporary style freak and he'll burn all my all shit.

Can you spot why?

I can go on, and on, and on... and then get to my bucket porn.

A flower pot is easy. So naturally I want ancient buckets.

I have about 350m3 of space. The only things I buy new are toilet seats because while I unload, I like to fill the whole damn space.

Even that's not true. An early 20th century toilet will be a flower bed water feature this summer in our backyard.

Anyway, I'm more into building and fixing but I just wanted to say that guys, you got it easy. So fucking easy. At least you all can just buy what you want.

I have made several purchases from HOUZZ. COM. That pave is incredible!! I had my builder install all basic lighting and fan fixtures. I then came and changed all of them out. Mostly from Houzz! I too enjoy metal art. Take a look at A Touch of Class.com

I totally get and respect the Classic and Vintage style. Just not for my tastes. I'm definitely more Modern and Rustic. But again, I appreciate ALL spectrum of decor. Because that's what makes us all unique.

That, my dear, is a bucket from the early 20th century. It will be holding some houseplants in a few days. I have buckets from different centuries and different use all around the house because nobody collects them and I felt like someone should. My husband feels like no jury would kill him if he offed me with one.

If you have an eye for ancient buckets, you can spot them in all of the photos I'd assume. They're all different.

bucket? so is that the lid with a handle and rope attached? i'm guessing you'll remove it to plant things in it?

That's an old community well bucket and it'll be hanging in our formal living room with orchids growing from it. The rope came with it, so knowing me that'll be a thing doing something too. It weighs so much empty I need to figure out how to install it.

Our media wing, I swear, looks more normal. There is an actual couch there and a tv. Next to it is a library and computer room. It's totally modern!*

*mild lying allowed. By mild I mean horribly much lying not admitted here.
