Fuel-saving tech - think BMW will ever do cylinder deactivation?

Is there a reason the Germans (other than Chrysler) havn't adopted some sort of cylinder deactivation system? (Granted, twin turbo's achieve added fuel economy in a more fun manner )

Basic info but good read:

This shit all belongs in the Efficient Dynamics realm. Turbocharing, KERS, Cylinder deactivation, etc. are all forthcoming technologies for BMW. BMW has already employed many of these to varying extents, but I think most would agree that they will be built into the designs more and more as these technologies become cheaper to implement.

this little snippet talks about BMW using KERS and hybrid tech down the line.
