Former 335i owner test drives the 135i
Finally decided to take a drive in the 135i to see what all the fuss is about. The main thing that I noticed when I drove the 135i was that the shifts are a lot more crisp and the clutch has a much lighter feel than my 335i. The throttle response seems better but I could feel no difference in acceleration. In the twisties, the 135i seem to suffer more body roll than the 335i. Overall, I am impressed with the 135i. It is a great car for those who just want the 335i's performance without the looks. The interior trim look and feel cheap and I don't think I have to say anything about the exterior.

I'm glad you made this thread. I really wanted an unbiased opinion from someone who also has had a 335 and M3. So, unless I read your post wrong, the 135 is little more than an ugly 335?

I know some people will be upset with my comments, but 135i has failed to impress me as well, it offers nothing substantial over a 335i, and the weight savings are not exactly enough to make the switch either. With that said they are much better than most cars in that price range and still a BMW to drive.

The looks of the 135 have grown on me.
The more I look at it the more I like it (When I first the thing -> ) I still hate those damn huge headlights, besides that its a nice car imo.

The M3 is worth every penny just on looks alone. The 135 is a nice drive, after all it is based on the 335. People seem to think the 135i is quicker than the 335i, they assume it is much lighter because it looks so much smaller but they would be wrong. The 135i is 88lbs lighter than the 335i (135i - 3,439lbs v. 335i - 3,527lbs) and any drag race between the two will be a driver's race. In the end, it all comes down to looks and $$$. To me, the extra $$$ for the 335i is well worth it. |

^^^ Thanks for the rubbing the M3 in my face. Bastard. j/k strange license plate by the way. No AD or HK? How has the M3 been treating you?
I really think the 135's failing isn't the looks, as terrible as that is, but the weight. A car that size should've weighed in at around 250lbs less. Ah well, it's not my money.

It is interesting how the 135i is as heavy as it is. I think BMW could have done better there. |

M3 over priced for what you get. Plenty sitting on the lots. Most likely due to worse than SUV gas mileage.
135 should have been the 128d 4 door hatch diesel. End of story. 335 coupe best value for the money. BMW really messed. They have M3's on the lots becuase of high gas. They have 135 coupe/verts on the lots because they are butt ugly. They should have built more 335's, and a 128d 4 door hatch. They are really missing the market now.

The M3 is nice, I'll be keeping this one for a while I'm just trying to run the miles off the car now so I can get my 1200 mile service out of the way. Drove to Graf and Stuttgart a few days ago, 600 miles to go. Probably take a drive to K-town in a few days. |

I saw a few modded 135's at the Euro show I attended this weekend. They actually looked nice. Appears a lot of people are taking advantage of the cheap performance but other than that, I dont think I would buy one.
Your right, M3 is worth the money based on looks alone! Jason

Sort of. With the E46 M3, BMW had waiting lists and while some people like the exclusivity of owning a car trickling into the supply line, for the car maker it typically means lost sales since lots of people get something else rather than wait. So this time, they ramped up production so plenty would be available to me demand - and demand plummeted. The value of the dollar fell, the price of fuel rose, and instead of a waiting list, they've got cars sitting. Things will level out.

Prices in America will never be close to what they are in Europe, fortunately enough. There's too much competition for American market share. Also, as demand for luxury vehicles drops off with this economic slump, Euro luxury car makers would be hard pressed to substantially raise prices without looking at even bigger losses.
Heh, this got pretty OT pretty fast.

Its not a bad drive, but nothing close to the M3. The wifey likes the drive more than the 335i but didn't like the looks at all. What color did you order for your M3? I saw a Silverstone II at the dealership yesterday, maybe its your's. So far, we have 3 AWs, 1 JB, 2 SSII, and 1 SG.
