Meaning of the roundel logo

Did you guys know that when BMW first came up with the blue/white roundel logo, it was because that's the color of the bavarian flag? It had nothing to do with a propeller. It wasn't until later on that it got associated to the propeller.

Read this on the BMW mag. Also paid my bmw cca renewal fee at the same time.

from what i remember it's both. it's represents the spinning propeller (heritage) and the colors used are those of the bavarian flag.

Nope, the intial conception didn't involve spinning propellers. Later on people associated the roundel to a spinning propeller, and so now its known as both. But when it was first designed, it was just meant to represent the color/checker design of the flag.

Wow learned something new again. I only knew the propeller history. Grazie! I was wondering about the Bavarian flag since it shared the same basic colors and pattern. I have a thread of a German police car with a shield made up of the bavarian flag.

I heard something about the colors on the Bavarian flag from some BMW clip. The propeller I learned from the DVD. Isnt MB's logo also a propeller??
