Has anyone installed a 4 post car rack in their garage? I was looking into one since my family has 3 cars and a 2 car garage. Looking into purchasing the 4 car soon and was thinking on getting a 4 post rack installed to put the cars in the garage vs natures elements. any recommendations? I live in Central NJ..

I have one and it works great. However you would need a certain ceiling height depending on your lift manufacturer. You would also need a 240 watt plug to raise and lower it although 120 would work too but relatively slower.

My ceiling height is enough for 2 cars, 12'.6"

That looks sweet, I have installed the overhead doors and motor set up.. I now need the 4 post lift, any specific brand you guys recommend?

I have a DirectLift. Most people have either that or Bendpak. Both seem to be about equal quality/service as far as i could tell during my research, so i went with the brand that my installer had the most experience with.

As far as ceiling height, DirectLift told us to add up the heights of the two cars i was stacking, plus add 12 inches, to see if the application would work. I have a stupidly low garage ceiling (a little over 10 feet) so i can only stack cars on the lift that are 50 inches or shorter - which basically limits it to sports cars and small roadsters. none of the BMW’s fits. But I have a few of those so i knew what i was getting myself into. I also had to modify how my garage rolls up and convert the motor to a side-mounted unit...it was all very annoying but it’s now a good, albeit tight fit.

Your 12’6” is more than enough, though. Unless you’re planning on stacking SUV’s or trucks...and if you are, use the rule of thumb i posted above to get a general sense of whether it would work

I also chose Direct Lift. This is their Pro Park 9000. I also purchased two hydraulic rolling jacks to do service work. When I was shopping, early on I became convinced that I wanted one that was Auto Lift Institute (ALI) approved...just for the assurance that it met a standard of safety. Most of the key lift manufacturers have submitted their lifts for this testing. In the final decision making it came down to this and a similar BendPak lift. No regrets with my choice. It does a good job performing both duties of doubling storage and doing maintenance. My ceiling height is 13'6". Only when placing a lifted Ram pickup have I needed that much height. Two suggestions for shopping: (1) Make certain you're getting a lift that will handle the heaviest vehicle you'll ever be placing on it. (2) Look carefully at the measurements of the lift (These things have a surprisingly large footprint).

I also have a Bendpak (HD-9) and love it. My old shop had a 10'3" ceiling and I was able to use it with my F type and SLK no problem.....actually I had the SLK on the lift with my Superbee under as well. over 12' and you have plenty of space for most things. My new shop is 14'6" tall but that's overkill for a lift.
