Hidden Gems in Thailand
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com It’s my first post here. I would like to share with you my interesting Sunday at the first #bimmerrace – a cool name for a first-ever track day for bimmers. BMW communities in Thailand has been on its rise in the past couple of years from the classics to the ///M’s. #bimmerrace is practically a spin off from the successful #bimmermeet – an annual gathering of BMW fans that gained popularity here. The #bimmerrace took place at the Bira Circuit – an old race track from 1980s named after the prince of Siam who raced F1 in the early days. It is just 150km east of Bangkok, easy Sunday drive out took just an hour and a half. It was quite a surprise to see a mix of cars from the classic 2002 to the futuristic i8 running on the same track. The scene reminded me of the 100-year celebration TVC from BMW. A total of nearly a hundred cars signed up for the day. Despite the alternate weather between sunshine and slight rain, everyone was joyful and happy to let loose their cars on track with professionally organized into groupings such that the track day junkies were in the same batches, while the rookies – including me – were happy running about in the same groups around the nice 2.4km track with some challenging up and downhill turns. Here are some selected pictures of the day |

Hi ScottSinger
Thanks much. The past couple of years, the BMW communities grew quite a bit. There have been quite a few nice cars surfacing out of the blue in the past few years. But this time track day turned up with a few surprise, the 320si WTCC, for example. The beat-up white race car is also quite special with S14 DTM engine (as I was told). |

Very cool!
Wondering if any of the cars were from neighbouring countries like Malaysia and so Singapore? The black licence plates looked different. |

This time, no cars from Malaysia or Singapore. #bimmermeet which is a casual gathering, there were a few from Malaysia driving up. The black plate cars are sponsored cars from BMW Thailand for the driving instructors to lead in the morning before free run in afternoon. For a rookie like me, have a lead car making it much easier, just follow the line |

Hands down one of the highlights there. Any more information on that specific one? Is it an actual WTCC car or a street 320si with the WTCC bodykit? I would love to know how the owner got their hands on one. I would love to have one myself.

Wow! Thanks for sharing.
I've been going to Thailand for years now and never knew about the Bira Circuit. Had I known, I would have definitely paid a visit. Having lived in Bangkok for year, I got somewhat familiar with the car scene. There's absolutely no shortage of exotics and BMW's roaming the streets. During my stay, I attended several auto shows and events. I vividly recall seeing a number of mint e30 M3's at a BMW event held at Central World. I even saw some 190e Evo's. I am going to visit Thailand again in the Winter. Can't wait. Beautiful country and people. This post is making me consider picking up something fun to drive around in next time I'm there. Perhaps an older ///M model - maybe an e36 M3 or equivalent. |

Here we go. It's an E89 with full body kit from one of the renown carbon kit from Germany (that I can't remember the name) with a modded 35i engine. The car belongs to my friend's. Here are some pics from another meet. |
