I think it's great to see the S5 sit between the C63 and M3 cab. The TT-S is only 0.1s behind the M3 cab too!

Whats more amazing though is the 2 ton RS6 Avant running with the Corvette C6 and is ahead of the M3, C63, S5, IS-F, TT-S etc. Wish we had an M5 on that board too for comparison though.

This one is for TB,

An Audi S5 in front of an M3, a TT in front of a 135i and both with less power than their BMW equivalents.

What Quattro must sap in power on the straight it gives back to it in the corners......................and then some.

Yeah, Quattro is a bloody awful system to have in any car.

P.S.
I see the TT-S came third overall, that is a good omen for the TT-RS. Though I was hoping the S5 would have been regarded a little higher than it got overall.

Why the hell did they use an M3 convertible? Were they afraid that the e92 M3 would spank its competitors a little too much? meh

The M3 was a convertible, which all mags have been saying is way softer than its coupe variant, and the TT-S is a $66,000-70,000 two seater sports car, not a comparable vehicle to the 135i.

I'm still wondering why they'd use a vert. The coupe would've easily shaved off a few tenths, which would've made all the difference in its overall standing in the competitition.

I thought the 135i was better around the track than the 335i. And I thought the S5 was a woffly porker that was, performance-wise, inferior to anything BMW could drum up... At least that's what I heard on e90post.

The RS6 is badass for sure, and the TT-S was another pleasant surprise.

Slowly but surely, i'm becoming a major audi fanboy. The numbers dont lie.

I do wish mags would stop using the M3 Cab though. Such a weird choice. The coupe would have likely defeated the S5... but with the RS vs. M and S vs. 35 as the established mindset... the "whole stock 335i > stock S5" really needs to stop.

its because the M3 is the convertable. If it was the coupe, it would've been a whole different result.

It's true the M3 coupe would be quicker. I'm not saying the M3 and S5 and rivals. I just think it's very interesting that even though the S5 is the 335i rival, it still manages to be quicker than the M3 cab. Even if the M3 coupe was used I think the gap between the S5 and M3 wouldnt be huge.

In the UK the TT-S is £33k, the 135i is £30k. The two car's aren't that far apart on price, well in Europe at least but their respective perform is a world apart. For heaven-sakes the TT-S was ahead of the IS-F as well and all with a power deficiency of 150hp.

Yes I know the M3 was the convertible, but even with that fact the M3cab will still out accelerate it and the other fact you need to keep in mind is it is an M3, regardless of the model for a lowly S5 to better it says something about how far Audi has come in the last few years. Yes the coupe should have been used and the results would have been different, it would have beat the S5 and the RS6 as well.

Back to the TT-S, this little coupe with it's humble 2.0L engine beat some stiff competition. The EVO X, the STi, the IS-F, 135i to name a few, this has restored my faith in the brand more than any other model excluding the R8. I originally thought that the RS5 would be the model to pull me out of my M3 and back into an Audi once again, but now I reckon I was think about the wrong Audi, I should have been thinking about the TT-RS.

I would love to know what Leg would think of this model.

No Zo6???

And can someone explain me what Varvtid(Min)(Column no.5) means?? Is it the total time for the several and equal number of laps they did on each car...??

Offtopic.....I'm being a little immature but check out what they call top speed (Topp-FART)

Well take it for what it's worth. When it's three tenths of a second that makes the difference for a large portion of the pack, I'd chalk it up to driver capability.

Yes, a little immature. That is the topspeed reached at a certain point on the track.

Oh Foot....when you Audi plays against the second string of cars (no M3 coupes, no Z06, no M5, no 911) they should win. As other noted, it is a M3 Cab...big weight penalty.

I am surprised at how poorly the 135i did though...Since the TTS just finished behind the S5, this is more of a TTS statement than anything else. Also the ISF getting beat by the M3 Cab??

The TTS is targeting the Cayman / Boxster and if one had been in there, I am sure it would be about the same.

I take it you are talking about the difference between the S5 and the M3cab. You could chalk it up as driver capability and you would be right in that opinion, but then that is why I have always insisted that on the road, in the hands of an average driver the S5 would give the M3 coupe a run of it's money, and that is solely down to one factor ......... Quattro.

It the S5's biggest asset and it's biggest weakness, it makes the S5 so easy to drive quickly time and again but because of this it makes it less entertaining than a well sorted rwd chassis.

You have to admit that even against the E93 M3 the result did surprise you, also you can't expect a 354hp coupe weighing 1715kgs to compete with any of the cars you have mention above, it's not intended to be a sportscar, it's a GT that just happens to perform well.

You may be surprised by the 135i's performance but I wasn't, it's not really that great. Yes it's quick in a straight line but it's handling isn't the best in stock form. I agree with you that this is a victory for the TT-S over the S5, it's a great car and one which has impressed me more than any other Audi with the possible exception of the R8. When it can do so much with only 270hp what will it not do with QuattroGmbH get their hands on it and tweak it's chassis and brakes plus give it another 80hp.

I got laugh at when I said the TT-RS could be a real rival to the M3 but based on this does that statement still sound so laughable.

Fifthgear is a TV show so don't read to much into their findings. Though the real star of the day was the TT-S, coming 3rd overall is quite an achievement for what was once known as a hairdresser's car, but can now be known as a driver's car instead.

Wow, it's "430 Scuderia" not "F430 Scuderia"

Magazines, TV, OWNERS call it an F430 Scuderia all the time and it pisses the hell outta me. Every time I hear that, I get the urge to shoot a baby and stick it in a dozen trashcans. The same with the Challenge Stradale (it's not a 360 Challenge Stradale or better yet an F360 Challenge Stradale)

-End Rant
