This is so true!
![]() ![]() I used to be a Super Heavyweight at drinking. Now I won't even attempt to drink beyond my preset limit. And I have water on hand to sip. ![]() The Struggle Is Real... LOL!

Haha yes, the struggle is real for sure.
I vividly remember one night when I was 22. Out until 2 at the bar, woke up and rode my bike 5 miles to the pool for 4:45 am swim practice, swam for 2 hours, then took a nap before work. |

I feel it!
I used to be able to drink like a champ, four nights a week out and so on. Didn’t need hair of the dog. I’m 55 now, have donated a kidney and if I go out for a night it takes me about two days to recover! Not sure if it’s just the age or the one kidney but my Son calls me a lightweight now. The struggle IS real! |

The absolute BEST remedy for hangover is some variation of:
Sodium/Salt Potassium Magnesium If not available, drink Pedialyte (best option!) or Gatorade without all the sugar type. More alcohol is a stupid, fake urban legend.

But if your going on a bender, I've been on a few....live hard and play hard. Caesers for breakfast, or beer shower and then off to the races again.......hmmm, sounds bad but that's been my reality. |

When I was 21 I drank one shot short of a quart (of Wild Turkey within a couple hours. I never passed out. I remember sitting outside the cabin and watching the trees go up and down. The next day I felt fine but as the day went on I lost my memory. Parents took me to the doc the day after and the Doc said he had a "lost weekend"
I remember laying in bed staring at a picture of my girl friend who had left me 6 months earlier. I only weighed 120 pounds at the time. Obviously I should have died. Guess God had another plan. Ate the age of 73 I might have one drink a week. If i have a couple I will get a headache. But even a couple years ago I had maybe 8oz of good scotch in an afternoon/evening. Most people will not get a headache on a good scotch. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it. ![]() |

I definitely had a good run with alcohol. I had some great times; some, I have to wait for the statue of limitations to run out. But 12 years and 3 months and 7 days and a couple hours ago, I realized that I could either live my purpose and live up to my potential, or I could drink. I was withholding my gifts from the world, not realizing anywhere close to my potential. I picked me, and life. I've never regretted it. I wish it weren't the case, but I really did have to pick. I envy you who don't. And if you decide you might have to pick and you want a sounding board, I'm here.

Weekend schedule in the NYC area at 20-21:
Go to work on Thursday. Head into NYC, drink party, stay out all night. Get in at 5 AM, take a shower and head into work at 7 or so. Friday: Wash. Rinse. Repeat but get in at 6 or 7, eat breakfast go the sleep until 2 or 3 on Saturday afternoon and head back to the city. Next weekend, do the same in DC or Philly. No ill effects. Last night: Meet the car guys for our annual party/hazing session. Several glasses of wine for me with the same for her plus a shot. Food. In by 10:30. Up at 6:30, GF is wrecked and doesn't wake up until 10:30, My butt is dragging like an old tired dog/ UncleWede and having to do another party tonight after typing this crap. Youth is wasted on the young, for sure.

It takes me a lot to get drunk now, and I get horrible hangovers. I handle alcohol well during but the next day is basically ruined...

Entirely dependent on the booze for me. I love vodka, but one good vodka martini will lay me out all the next day. I just can't do vodka. Scotch/whiskey/rum, I'm ok for 3 good measures (ahem, generous measures). Add a 4th and I battle a light hangover the next day. Tequila in a mixed drink like a good 'Rita? I can drink and drink and drink. Usually it's the mix and limes that mess with me (heartburn). When I drink beer, it's IPA, so that's self-limiting because I just get too full to drink any more. Usually 3 or 4 at most.
I can't say that hangovers are worse now than when I was young because I just don't let myself get to the hangover point any more. IOW, I haven't been to the point of spins/barfing/passing out in decades. Many decades. That's stuff is for youngsters.

My family has a saying that alcohol is god's way of teaching mankind moderation (I didn't really 'pass the course' until I got medical issues that forced me to self-limit). Those of you noting that 'it takes more to get drunk' means you developed tolerance, but that is just your brain offsetting the EtOH, your body is still taking the full hit of all those shots. Give it a month off until you are a 'lightweight' again and you'll do yourself a favor; all that pounding does damage, but it doesn't show for a decade or so (like those people who tell you that you are stupid to do oil changes - their car is still running fine at 25k with no maintenance...). And FWIW, much of the hangover is actually the sleep deprivation effect (it passes you out, but not really effective sleep), and the secondary toxins or additives in cheap liquor.
