Why no supercar?

Porsche, Mercedes, Audi and even Honda has built one.

Why hasn't BMW built one?

I wouldn't say either my M4 or my Z4 M40i are "$40k bland cars". To me, they are both fantastic automobiles.

Well . As far as I know has the ///M8 Comp . supercar performance .
The damn thing has "625 HP" under the hood . And is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 sec, from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 sec, from 0 to 160 km/h (100 mph) in 7.2 sec, from 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 11.4 sec .

Fixed that for you

they are probably afraid because all of the concepts the suits upstairs can come up with is some kind of hybrid i8 looking thing. then they take a look at the airball acura shat out with the nsx and stay quiet at their desks. they might cite the market as not being there, but its really just not being able to produce a product that fits market demands in that segment.

lol the M8 is not a supercar by any stretch. Its basically the new M6. F92 chassis code (M5 is F90), same m5 running gear, same autotragic tranmission (911, R8, and AMG GT all use a real DCT).

I think the dreams of a bespoke BMW supercar are gone. They had a chance to make the i8 great if they put an M5 v10 in there.

Yeah no. It's most definitely not. A super car needs super car looks. Yes it's pretty f'ing quick but no where near as looking like a supercar.

Yes they had a great basic shell with the i8 but they had to make the interior and the powertrain eco... like what.

I disagree with the premise that a supercar needs to have 'supercar' looks, whatever subjective definition that is.

Performance wise, the M8, especially the comp pack, is definitely supercar, and that's what matters.

I wouldn't even mind if they would have made the i8 a supercar-quick EV or hybrid, but for some reason they made a sick looking car with 369 COMBINED horsepower that costs 2x the F8x...

The tires are too skinny too...

It is subjective, but I believe it's a requirement that the car looks like a supercar. The M8 looks nice, but it looks more like an S65 AMG Coupe or a Honda Accord than any of its supercar counterparts.

Hard to define what a supercar looks like, but you'll know it when you see it.

Hey if Fast and Furious looks are what matter to you, fine, but that is not what defines a supercar. Performance does.

A super car has to be "exotic" looking. Or else it's just a high performance 2 door coupe. If I do 1000whp with my E92 335is does it become a super car? No. It's most definitely not all about having power.

The M8 is a super high luxury performance car, like the S65 AMG coupe. No one is calling that car a super car so why would the M8 be called that.
