Nest Hello doorbell

late to the party about getting this done but seems like all my friends and coworkers all have this done now for the past years so i decided i need to get around to doing this. for those of you who have it are there any newer or better models out there or different brands that you wish or maybe thinking about changing and going to? any tips on install or placement before installing this as a couple of my coworkers had mentioned they would install it differently because they keep getting notifications every sec because of how sensitive it is? appreciate it fam!

I have the ring doorbell. I love it, it has settings to change the sensitivity although I live in a closed community so not a whole lot going on to trigger it. Occasionally cars on the street in front will trigger it. Not enough to bother me.

The ring can be run off battery or hardwired. I ran it off the battery for a few months because I was using it in the rv. It makes the install very easy, just stick it wherever, however the battery doesn't last THAT long. Anyways it's hardwired at home, very easy replacing my old doorbell and no worries about battery dying.

Same here. Been flawless since installing it. We got Ring because everyone in our neighborhood has it, and my neighbor 2 doors up is like the unofficial moderator of the community watch since he retired younger and has a lot of free time on his hands. He's a good guy though and watches out for everyone on our street.

Another Nest Hello doorbell here. We've had it for about 15 months and so far so good. The audio and video quality is quite good and the unit has been reliable. No complaints and will not be replacing it for another brand. We have a few other Nest products as well so it's nice from a product integration perspective. It's nice having all products in one app.

I have the Nest Doorbell and I’m very happy with how it works. You can set exclusion zones and have it ignore motion and sound so you don’t get a huge amount of notifications if you don’t want them. It also saves pictures of people’s faces and gives you the ability to apply a name to the people the doorbell sees. I have mine set up to just notify me when it sees a person.

That's pretty cool. I don't think mine does that. Half the time it's a duck, cat, possum walking by the door.

I have a Nest Doorbell too, no complains. I choose Nest specifically, as I have a Nest thermostat for many years already, and the Nest Doorbell integrates with that Nest App nicely.

No complains about too many notifications. I turned ON only the notifications when somebody is at the door, or is ringing the doorbell.

You also have to consider which subscription you go with (not sure about Ring subscription prices). But i went with a $50/year recording subscription for mine.

How does a thermostat integrate with a door bell? What kind of function is triggered by one another?

They don't integrate with each other in terms of triggering each other, but instead it is all in one Nest app. Instead of having a bunch of different apps for every "smart" thing you would have at home.

+ over the years Nest app in general never let me down or never malfunctioned, which is very important also.

I've been using and upgraded our RING doorbell since they introduced it. Such a wonderful device. Answering my door from my phone away from home is priceless!

I bought a Ring 2 for my parents for Xmas. I think it has the upgraded 1080p HD Camera. I installed it on Xmas morning in about 35 min. Easy to set them up on the app and they love it.
Ring also has a "community forum" on the app for people in your neighborhood and surrounding areas so that you can notify anyone of suspicious activity. That portion is perfect for my retiree parents.

Two days ago, I received an alert, accessed my video feed, and in live view, watched a guy walk his dog up into my yard and allow the dog take a shit there. Like 10 feet from the sidewalk.

Since I wasn't home to confront the dog owner, I opened up the speaker and said, "I know you're going to clean that up!" Magically, he pulled a bag out and cleaned up. Otherwise, I truly believe he was going to march on his marry way.

Now that's a selling feature.
How long is the delay from actual event to alert and then video available in your phone?

Went with Arlo cameras instead. The newer ones have two way audio in addition to the motion activated video. Wireless and rechargeable batteries so every few months I have to take it down and charge for a few hours, but way better than the 1st gen that needed the high power lithium disposable batteries. Generally against buying products from Amazon or Google who want to sell you stuff or sell your data.

Had the Nest Hello since it came out and have also added two of the Nest Cam IQ outdoor, one over the garage door for a great view of the driveway and front yard, one over the basement patio door for a view of the back yard.

Like the facial recognition, the ability to setup zones as well as customize the notifications you receive.

Also like the integration with other products. When the doorbell rings the Nest Hub screen (5 of them throughout the house) automatically switches to the camera, so my lazy ass doesn’t even have to grab my phone or look on my watch.

Also you can setup announcements, so when the doorbell rings all our Google devices announce “Someone’s at the front door” or if it recognizes the person “Sally is at the front door.” You can setup when the doorbell is allowed to ring or be announced, so if you don’t want it to ring before or after certain times you can set your preferences and only receive notifications on your phone.

With the Nest Hubs, you can just say “Show me the driveway” “Show me the front door” etc. and the Hub displays the live feed of any of your cameras.

My wife loves the screens and the facial recognition as she hates answering the door, especially when she’s home alone.

I love this doorbell. I love how it’s always recording even without a “trigger”. I can literally,go back and scan thru every minute of the day if need be. That’s how I found the little family of raccoons walking across my front steps. Lol
