Has your BMW been totaled? Share your story

Figured since most of us have a lot of spare time we could post our previous BMW's that were considered totaled or total losses. I'll start with my old 2012 e93. Car was black on black hardtop also under 100k miles. Was deemed "electrical issues"

Feel free to share as little or as many details as you'd like. I think most of us would be interested in them.

Last summer, I-93 South in Wilmington, MA. 4 lanes, rush hour, I was in the far right lane, doing ~40 mph following flow of traffic.

Tractor trailer was coming up on my left and moved over on me. His front wheel hit my 135i rear wheel pretty hard, I was pitched sideways, counter steered and pulled over. Had just put new Koni Sports the week prior. Car was mint.

The (Canadian) driver pulls over and gets out and sheepishly tells me he didn't see me. Thankfully he told the State Police the same thing.

Body work was only $4K, but with suspension and drive line damage (everything was bent, hard to see the camber on picture below) they stopped counting at $10k.

I would have preferred to buy back and fix, but I could no longer get collision on a totaled vehicle (at least in MA). I bought a CPO M2 with 9K miles and fought them on the payout until I got a bit over $15K (they originally offered $11K)

My Wife drove my car back in December and was involved in collision, no one hurt (can always get new car, but can't replace her). She drove my car maybe couple times previously. Anyways, she went to a local carry out food joint to pick up special prepared items for event at our daughter's home. The location is right on a very busy main road with a rather steeply inclined parking lot. I believe when she parked, she put the car in neutral, exited my car, then watched as my vehicle started rolling backwards gaining speed through the inclined parking lot! Fortunately, it avoided other cars, ran over a curb, barely missing a fire hydrant as it dragged over a grass berm, crashing down on a tall second curb as it entered into the busy boulevard where cars swerved around the unmanned BMW rolling perpendicular through traffic on its way to the opposite side of the road! No one injured (except wife's feelings)! Although I loved that car (just paid it off), I love the better half of me more and she was not hurt!

Although the car appeared to just have minor cosmetic damage, the berm destroyed the exhaust, catalyst and tore up the underside. The last curb crushed the radiator, turbo inter-cooler, steering gear (expensive), took out the nose and both headlamps... $21K in damage... totaled

The 2014 335i M-Sport RWD was $57.5K MSRP fully loaded with MPPK, MPE, several cosmetic items and had just installed the LSD in the back. Came to agreement on cost after 45 days. Although I hope never to have this happen again, I can not complain as I acquired a 1 year old BMW Individual 440i for a great price!

Not a BMW but it's what brought me to BMW. Almost $60k in damages (doesn't look it, but the suspension was ruined). Written off thankfully and not repaired since I had under 1k miles on it.

Who knows if that's where the damage stopped. Hope the M2 has been treating you well.

Keep in mind that's $60k Canadian (sticker on that car was $82k Canadian). After the accident I thought maybe $30k max and was pissed just because it was so new. I so happy when the adjuster called and said it was totalled...I literally danced in my kitchen lol.

2011 535i Parking Garage Total

My F10 was totaled in my parking garage. The driver pushed me back into a wall, then knocked the car in the next spot into a third car. Damaged the front and the back. I had just come back from a 90+ MPH cruise from NC on an empty I-85, and the car was running great. He fled the scene, but came back and left a note (with valid info, no less) on our windshields.

All these pictures make me sad. Someone rammed into the back of my 2012 335I Coupe but it was not totaled out.

Saw a tad bit of smoke once I got on the freeway, figured maybe one of my gaskets started leaking onto something hot. Popped open my hood and instantly saw a tiny flame at the bottom, looked like on the exhaust maybe (didn't have a lot of time to inspect it). At the time I only had my laptop to work on school work with and my PC just broke so I ran to my trunk before the electronics shit the bed and grabbed my laptop and then frantically searched for something to take out the fire. I had nothing so I had to wait for the fire department which took 20 minutes to get on the scene. By the time they were there the car was toast and I had caused a traffic jam on the freeway.

Sad story but hey, insurance said it was an electronic issue so i'm not sure.

This epidemic of chronic under-inflated tire pressure is getting out of control. This thread is a testament of that
