Windshield replacement - dealership or Safelite?

Hey guys,

Imma have to replace my windshield on my 2020 m340i, and my question is should I have the dealer or safelite do it? I talked to safelite and they said they would have a guy come out, replace the windshield with an oem bmw one, and calibrate all the systems. I'm worried about calibration part especially the HUD, 360 camera, and lane departure warning. Any recs?

Thanks

I had to replace mine a week after I got it due to Arizona rocks everywhere on the freeways. Safelight did mine. I made sure it was oem. They actually picked it up from a local bmw dealer and came over and did it. The calibration. Guy came out and hooked everything up. He said it didn't even need calibration since the newer cars self calibrate as my m340i did. No problems at all.

Did they replace the sensor or reuse the old one?

Which sensor are you referring to. The windshield has its own that was new and plugs into the rear view mirror

I'm based in the Netherlands, and had a comparable situation. Asked the lease company if they could have BMW install it, but they have a deal with a third party ("KwikFit"). Was worried, and rightfully so. They replaced with a replica (Pilkington), now HUD is a bit distorted. Complained, so they replaced it with.. exactly the same Pilkington screen. Complained again, they will now probably replace with OEM (will hear about that this week).

That's a lot of time and energy wasted for something I warned them for from the beginning.

I advise you to demand original. Anyone can place it, but don't accept anything else than OEM.

I am working on getting mine replaced right now....I would rather have BMW do it, we will see what the insurance company comes back with.

I had my previous F30 windshield replaced and you could not reuse the sensor on the windshield needed to be replace period according to BMW.

Yes the new windshield has the sensors on it. So it's new sensors.

If you want oem, pay for the dealership to do it. If you are ok with aftermarket, there are 100's around
