Is this damaged 2011 Honda Civic worth fixing?
Hello. I have a 2011 Honda Civic (I also have an e92 don't mock me) the car has 64k miles. I've gotten a few quotes from body shops to fix the damage and it's about 2.5k-3k they've said. Is this worth doing? I basically got the car for 600 dollars clean title and everything. I think it'd make a good side car and first car for my 16 year old brother.
Market value for a car with similar year and mileage seems to be between 5.5k and 7k on offer up. Give your thoughts, runs good ac is nice and all. |

That's easily 5k+ in damages. Someone's just trying to get you in the door and will hit you with massive supplementals.

I don’t see that being under 3k at all . The only way that’s being fixed is if they cut that whole quarter panel off and weld a replacement.and in top of that the suspension looks like it was damaged so perhaps the frame is bent ? I’d cut my losses honestly

Damn I see. Yeah idk if the bottom subframe in the rear is bent. But the metal floor of the trunk is crumpled to the right. The guy I talked to said he'd have to cut off the quarter panel, remove every part of the rear of the car. Pull everything towards the driver side to bring in back in line and replace the panel.

Is this car worth fixing?
It was at some idiots shop who said he'd do it for 700 and he ended up not doing anything for months and getting evicted from the warehouse.

Honestly bro, I'd just put it up on Craigslist or offer up as "mechanic special" for like $2500 and let someone else deal with it. You can get a nice beater car for about $4k if you look around. I picked up an 07 accord at auction a few years ago for $800 that needed a transmission. Took it to my transmission guy and he swapped a used JDM one in for $1200 and has been running great ever since. I use it for running around or long trips to keep miles down on my nice cars. It's also nice to be stealthy sometimes. |

I'll have to keep shopping around and seeing if I can get it done for a cheaper amount. I don't need it to be perfect but you know good enough. I know this is miami and some shithead might be trying to get me in the door with a cheap price but I believe there are laws that protect the customer so that the shop can only charge close to what they quoted?
I'd rather have it fixed than deal with some car on the street but of course only if the repair is a good price. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from the photos it looks like it's crumpled on both sides? The pillar on the right side looks to have a pretty decent kink at the bottom, as well as damage to the arch.
CP, not worth the cost of doing it even cheaply. |

No. It isn't. It's a 10-year old Civic, just buy one that hasn't been wrecked that you could actually put full coverage on if needed.
No offense toward you, but people ask this question when they know it's not worth it, but want someone to talk them in to a bad decision. The car isn't rare, cool, or some other redeeming quality that would justify spending the money on it. |

I didn’t see insurance mentioned. Do you have comprehensive collision insurance on this vehicle?

If you fix it and give it to your 16 y/o brother, he will probably wreck it again within a few years. 1 in 4 16y/o are involved in a crash their first year alone. I wouldn't spend more than a couple grand on a teens first car.

I used to work in auto insurance claims. Judging from the crumpled corner opposite where most of the damage occurred, that car took a decent hit. There is definitely more damage that is not as easily seen (even though what you can see is still a lot). That is definitely totaled. It's a shame with the low mileage, but my bet is even if some shop in crappy Miami tried piecing it back together it would still never drive quite right. I've seen cars with half that damage that were fixed, and they still burned through rear tires and the alignment was never right.

Does it drive ok? If so, beat out the damaged parts as well as you can, paint any exposed paint with as close of blue paint as you can buy, get trunk so it latches down. Make it functional and skip on making it look great. This could involve frame straightening but now the rear quarter pannels.
As a first car for you 16 year old brother, seems like it would be a good one to start with and very little to lose for this new driver. If I didn't have a car this would be far better than walking.

Wife is seasoned insurance adjuster working nationwide. Says Florida is super shady on their tactics...there are absolutely no laws that would protect you from a shop getting you in the door, getting it torn down, and then raping you on cost.
She says based on suspension damage, frame damage from visible alignment of right side rear 1/4, total costs would likely be in the 12k range. It would be an instant total for an insurance claim. |

I do agree on the cost to make it perfect not being realistic which is the reason I would look into making it an acceptable driver. Highly unlikely the bumper and rear 1/4 panels need to be replaced to make this happen. From personal experience on wrecking a low value car I would also look into junk yard parts.
