Costco Tire Installation Feedback?

Any reviews?

What are the perks w/ installing them at Costco besides slightly lower price?

my girlfriend uses Costco and she gets free tire replacements for nails and flats, prorated or free not sure. and I think they do free balances. then they do the $150 rebate pretty often.

I wouldn't take my f22 there, I don't know I just can't.

Enough Costco posts on the F8X section to make me never want to go there. For regular ol wheels sure.

Never again with any wheels I care about. I have a set of 264 wheels that I picked up used with a bunch of curb rash for winter tires. I let Costco beat on those wheels.

But I took a chance on them with my pristine 261 wheels. The tech with the white shirt who is supposed to be the more senior/knowledgeable of all the techs there proceeded to damage all 4 wheels. The guy just didn't care and gave me back the wheels all messed up. Thank goodness I inspected the wheels right in front of him. Examining the first wheel, my heart sank. Then the second wheel, my heart sank even further. When I got to the third wheel, I was down right pissed. Then the fourth wheel, I was furious at that point. You would think the guy would actually look at what he was doing and realize to stop after buggering up the first wheel. It wasn't as if the damage required you to break out a magnifying glass. You could see the damage standing a few feet away. If they couldn't take off the run craps without damaging the wheels, they should have spoken up. In the end, Costco's insurance paid out $6-700 to repair all 4 wheels.

I decided maybe that situation was a fluke and I would have better luck with non run crap tires. Nope. They proceeded to damage one of the wheels again when mounting a replacement set of Pilot Super Sports. This time their insurance refused to pay claiming they couldn't have caused that damage in that area of the wheel as the pry bar doesn't reach that area. Despite the fact they had the previous pictures of how they buggered up my wheels showing more intense damage in the same area they claim was impossible for any of their tools to touch.

After that fiasco, I took my wheels to a BMW indie that mounted new 4S tires without causing any damage. The indie charges about 4 times more than Costco per wheel, but the hassle to save a few bucks just isn't worth it.

I had the rear tires on my 666 replaced at Costco without any damage. I'm getting my front tires replaced this week at Costco. They take extreme care when doing it and they offer great warranty and tire protection.

I would say that it depends on the location, and likely actual mechanic who is doing the job.

I recently did 275/45R19 on 622M for my F25 at Costco and the job was very well done.
(This is in contrast with reputable shop that always leaves marks somewhere.)

There was very minor scratch "inside" the rim where technician removed oversized factory weight. Not sure if it was at all possible to remove that weight without any damage. One can not see it unless you are looking for it. Outside - absolutely zero scratches.

Ordered online, scheduled appointment. 2 weeks later parked next to tire center, went shopping, came back in 1 hour - car was ready.

To sum up, my biggest "complaint" were ugly green replacement valve steam caps (ordered OEM set for under $2) .

I am definitely coming back to the same Costco location next time I need new tires.
No rotations (staggered), I have roadside assistance, my own patch kit and air compressor.

They burnished the clear coat at the lugs on my F32 however free tire replacement was nice. I did take advantage of that.

I've generally had good experiences. Their tire warranty literally pays off the Costco membership for years. I've had 3 flats in the past 15 months and Costco took care of me every time, each replacement just cost like $50 after they measured the tread difference.

But with that being said, they did lose the wheel lock on my mother's X5 which manifested in a headache with trying to get a new one from a local BMW dealer. And it seems like they've damaged the wheels of a at least a few members here. Costco does compensate if you complain.

Like most things in life you get what you pay for. The majority of cars Costco works on are mommy mobiles. Their technicians likely don't have the level of knowledge and care that a more specialized shop will have. Whether the price difference is worth it comes down to your willingness to take on the risk.

Hello.
I made the mistake of using Costco to install tires.
They damaged the hub, chipped paint on the lug holes, and put indentations on the barrels of my Vorsteiners.
I showed the tire manager and they denied they caused it.

About 5 years ago I talked to the auto manager of my local Costco about mounting Z06 tires( 325/30-19, 275/35-18)low profile, very stiff run flats on my new CCW forged, powder coated wheels, not easy to mount without buggering up the wheels and powder coat. He assured me that all will go well with the install. They had a Hunter Road Force balancer was one of the things I wanted and why I spoke to them to begin with, the tire price was another and from what he told me, sold me.
I was waiting outside in the wife’s car looking into the garage while they did the job. After they mounted the tires on the wheels and balanced them the manager took the mounted wheels and put them on the car, he then torqued the lugs down with a torque wrench and wiped the wheels clean. No damage or marks at all.
All said and done, I was quite pleased and have used them since on the Corvette and our other cars. That’s just one store though and I could be completely different at other ones.

I've used them for years for all my cars. They have really good prices and their warranty is pretty good as well. I'd recommend waiting until they have a coupon for additional $70 a set of Michelin's (if thats what you're putting on the car).

It also helps when one of the technicians is my patient.

As long as he’s a good tech that is.

The Costco near me has great techs. I've been using them for 10 years with no issues on all of my cars. Besides, I know he likes to be numb before I drill on his teeth.

I've been tempted but have found them to be far more expensive than Discount Tire (NOT to be confused with Tire Discounters). Been very happy about the care there so far. They just did my freshly painted rally wheels (did things in the wrong order lol) no issues at all. I have 56 tires to maintain so I go to where it's the cheapest but where they still seem to care. They've never even charged me to mount equipment tires and have fixed my flats for free with out the hazard plan.

After Costco told me they wouldn't install a wheel/tire combo size that isn't what came from the factory I haven't bothered with them for installs. I buy my tires at Costco or Tirerack, whichever is cheaper and take them to my alignment shop to get mounted & balanced.

2 weeks ago I used Costco for the first time to buy and install Michelin PSS’s for my F80 comp. They beat prices of every competitor including discount tire by about $150-200.

They installed it in a timely and professional manner. However there were some minor scratches on some of the wheels. Nothing that I will lose sleep over. In my experience discount tire does the same kind of damage to wheels. It really wasn’t any different.

If you want to keep your wheels pristine then don’t use Costco and instead find a locally recommend shop that is more mindful and careful with your wheels. Do some research look at reviews for shops.

I haven't had any issues with my local Costco damaging wheels, but they did mount one if my tires inside out one time. I didn't notice it till I went to rotate my tires 5k miles later and was like, "Wait a min, why does this tire say 'outside' on the inside?"

Well crap, didn't know they would beat the prices. Thanks for pointing that out!
