I am picking up my X5 M50 tomorrow and want to get ceramic coating. Have never done it before. I called a couple places that have very good reviews and was quoted $1850 for 4 layers and $1400 for 1 layer. This is a lease so I am not looking to spend a fortune and don't need lifetime protection. The color is black sapphire metallic. Is one layer enough to make it 3 years. If not, what should be the minimum I am looking for ? Thanks in advance

By the way, I am in NY, right on the North Jersey border.

I would ask the installer on how many coats you would need. I think 4 coats is more than you would need for a 3 year lease.

Bought ceramic coating and equipment for $50 and did it myself.
Really happy with the results.
In terms of longevity of ceramic coating, the biannual reapplication ( e.g. CarPro Reload) is crucial to maintain the ceramic layer.

After some time with your coding how are you finding it in terms of shine and years of cleaning etc. I’m just looking at having my ex five coded and wondering if it is worth it over just getting a paint correction every other year thanks

I keep wondering the same about this versus the prices I'm seeing for the different ceramic coatings.

we're talking about ceramic COATing, right? paint correction and ceramic coating are different. the first is restorative while the second is preventative. all the different nuances between the two would be too lengthy to discuss here, but in a nutshell, paint correction restores the gloss but has no hydrophobicity; ceramic coating adds gloss and has hydrophobicity. neither will completely protect from swirls. just need to ask yourself what you're trying to address as it relates to your vehicle's exposures on a day to day basis and what preventative measures you are willing to take during ownership.
