PPF on the windshield

Have you guys ever installed a clear bra on the windshield? I am trying to avoid rock trips on the trips.

Nah man, I don’t think it’s a thing. I’ve never heard of anyone PPFing their windshield. I mean, it’s just kinda tough to protect your car from EVERYthing, you know? It has to endure a pretty hostile environment for us. If you do happen to get one of those little rock chips, check with your insurance, as they will sometimes pay for the repair, in the interest of not having to replace a full windshield in the event the chip splits further.

They do have a product available for windshields and it's called Exoshield.

I just had it done on my 21 M5C while the car was getting PPF on the front end and roof because I do track the car. Cost was $450.00 installed.

Ah, well there you go. I stand corrected. Does it impact front visibility at all?

You wouldn't know it was there and visibility is the same as before it was applied.

How do the windshield wipers do in the rain with that? I seem to remember someone commenting that it made their wipers jump and chatter, but since I don't remember the details, I could be wrong.

Just cracked my windshield so figured why not. Look into my ppf guy doing this. And they told me the manufacturer put a recall on the stuff. Expecting a multi month delay she said. But they also wanted $900 for it and wanted to remove some trim which I think is overkill and much harder to simply remove and replace but ya. Not worth almost a grand imo. Tint alone is $500.

I ran ExoShield on my last car and will use it again on this one after I replace my windshield. It is not as hard as glass but does add a layer of protection that is cheap in comparison to replacing a windshield.

It will scratch over time and it pits easier than a windshield. When it gets bad, peel it and have a new piece installed. $300 vs $2k.

Yes there are films for glass.

All glass is $0 deductible by law in my state, so I never bothered to try it.

Same. Mine gets pitted in like 6 months. When it gets bad, I go through insurance and get a new one.

Lol my ppf guy wants $1000 to install it. Assuming the manufacturer ever releases it for sale again. Goal was to avoid the pitting with the self healing features that ppf typically has using hot water. Guess that’s not the case?
For $300 it’s a no brainer. $1000 hell no. Especially with $0 deductible I have.

New windshield installed today! Tint after the holidays. Kinda glad as I almost forgot what it was like to not have tint on the windshield. The normal glare alone is worth it! Haha

Not very helpful lol.
A bit more detailed experience would be great. How long you had it?. Experience with pitting, chips, self heal, cost, blah blah

I have had it on all my cars since 2017.

My previous gen F10 M5 had it. Lasted about 2 and half years and it needs to be replaced. Drove that car 4 years without cracking or chipping the windshield. It cost around $400 installed and its the best investment ever.

How many miles? Primarily highway or city? And what state if you don't mind.

I am in CA. I put around 25k miles on the car and if you do get it, never turn on the wipers on dry windshield as it will scratch the ppf.

It’s one of the first thing i did on my current F90 as well.

What brand ppf for $400 installed in CA?

My Virginia Beach ppf guy wants $1000 for exoshield citing they have to remove trim to give it a seem less look which I could care less about. Don’t understand how you couldn’t simply cut it close enough to the edge free hand. For $400 I would do easy. But not for $1000 haha
