What have I done to my car?!

Hey guys!

I've visited this car hand wash center a couple of times before noticing this on the paint finish in direct sun light. I am convinced that mirco swirly scratches are due to poor washing technique, is that right? What can I do to fix it permanently? Please advice. (Sorry for the weird image orientation)

Looks like it. You're going to need a paint correction at a detailer to fix that.

Holy cow, that looks awful. As already said look for a professional. There are also good products on the marked but for DIY ........ I find it too bad.

This is a perfect example of why it is always better to wash a car yourself. Most of the punks who wash cars are dope sucking losers that could care less about your finish. You pay good money for some high school drop out to rub down your BMW with a filthy rag full of sand and grease.

When you go to most car washes like this , they often drop the towels/rags on the ground throughout the day . This picks up small pieces of asphalt and gravel. That’s what this looks like .

Sorry that happen! Just drive it in the evening they wouldn’t even know!! I would check with your local BMW dealer to see if the detail department could fix that.

As bad as that looks, if its just from bad washing techniques, which it most definitely is, it should come out no problems with a good machine polish. You could get a lot of that out by hand, but you will look like Lou Ferigno at the end . Just find a trusted detailer, or good bodyshop, and it will get sorted. You have just learned lesson 1, of why you do not use any old car wash

I think you are right. This car hand wash is very reputed in the area and I see more expensive cars roll in for a wash but I am very disappointed with this result. I wont recommend this place to anyone else I know.

Here is a quick update on this issue. I engaged a good detailing company to fix this problem and I'm happy that the guy is able to correct and restore the paint finish. Here is a WIP picture:

P.S.: How do you rotate an image? The default orientation is always wrong.

Once you repair you paint, if you decide to keep the vehicle, get it wrap in XPEL PPF. I had my entire vehicle wrap, to avoid issues like this. Cost me $7K on my 2020 X5M COMP.

Sounds expensive but I'm sure it's worth it. Did you get a clear wrap? Please share pictures.
