Best place to donate old car?

What's the best way to donate a running condition car? I looked into it and it seems most organizations sell the donated car and than use proceeds for the causes they support. I want my car donated to someone who needs transportation. I don't want it to be auctioned off by charity where some crook will resell it. Any ideas?

Find a local tech college with an auto program. They'll have the most trustworthy resources.

Or check with your local churches that have family assistance programs. They are always in need of cars for transportation to help families transition out of welfare.

Agree with this.

We donated a running vehicle in 2019 to a local community assistance organization. We brought the vehicle, clean title in our name and keys. Signed the title over to them, they gave us a copy of the signed title and donation receipt, we removed our license plate and the deal was done. We saw the vehicle once or twice driving in the area.

Wifey and I donated her 1990 Escort to charity over a decade ago. The main reason we used a registered charity was to remove liability for the car from us. Just handing it over to a person could lead to liability claims if the brakes failed or whatever. Make sure you are absolved from liability no matter who you sign it over to.

KARS for Kids. To be clear they don’t donate your car to a kid.

We did this to even though the kid singing is really irritating. Guess it sticks in your brain.

Just be aware of how the 'charity' works.

Kars for Kids isn't very highly thought of.
Habitat for Humanity has some of the lowest overhead, meaning more $$ goes to the needy. They are also very easy to deal with.

This is strange, but a friend just donated his daughter's old car (unsafe to drive, he bought my Volvo) to the local PBS station. I think they're taking the cars and giving them to local auto programs, but I'm not 100% sure what they're doing with them.

A few decades ago a friend was leaving the country and needed his car up until the day he left, so he really couldn't sell it. Plus it really wasn't worth much as he was an it's just transportation kind of guy.

Anyway, on the day he left he walked through the airport asking people if they needed a car until he found someone that said yes. He handed them the keys, a bill of sale, the signed title and a map to what parking spot it was in.

And never looked back.....

In the autobody world there is an organization that shops work with:
https://nationalautobodycouncil.org/...ecycled-rides/

Recycled Rides will pair up with a local church or similar group and then a local bodyshop restores the car. Whether it needs to be restored from a collision, or simply cosmetic work and then gifted to a family of need.

I personally have worked with this group, but our vehicle was donated by a salvage yard. Reach out to them if you're interested. I would actually like to do more of these especially in the way or todays world.

I didn't donate my old car. I just sold it for scrap at a junkyard. I always was dreaming of having an old Ford Mustang. And finally, a year ago I bought one. It was in pretty bad condition, but I bought it with the thought that I will recondition it, and it will be like new. When I calculated how much it will cost and how much time I will lose, I thought it is not worth it and better sell it to another enthusiast. I couldn't find a buyer for a long time, and finally, I decided that I will be the owner of that car, and I sold t for scrap.
