335i rival: the new Audi S4, with a 3.0 supercharged V6. 333hp/440Nm
It seems that Audi is finally preparing a contender for BMW 335i: the new Audi S4 not only in terms of power but also in terms of emissions and mileage. The engine will be a supercharged 3.0L V6 with direct injection, developing 333hp and 440Nm.
http://www.easier.com/view/News/Moto...le-205837.html Not bad, huh ? And it's got a LSD (active sport differential) available as an option ! I think that BMW will start offering one too, soon... The max torque is made between 2500 and 4850RPM...unlike BMW Last edited by cstavaru; 10-19-2008 at 05:39 PM.. |

Hmm..... the 2.0T loaded is almost as expensive as a 335i loaded, wonder how much would this thing costs......
I really dig the AVANT though

its funny because it should be the a4 competing with it.They need it to be an S model to keep up..lol. It should go against the m3. funny how much things have changed from when I had my 2000 s4.

I really wanted to love the outgoing S4 but, for the money it was no contest between it and the considerably cheaper better to drive 335. I hope the new S4 makes a more compelling argument for it's price range but, unless it's significantly lighter or cheaper I don't see how it could with essentially the same power as a 335. |

Not quite true. Audi has always intended the S4 to compete with the top model 3 and the RS4 with the M

This car is going to be hella expensive. I can't see it directly comparing with anything right now. It's in the niche between the 335i and M3, just like the S5.

when the last gen of S4 came out the top model of 3 series was still a 225HP 330i.

I have to disagree. when the s4 came out all the comparisons were against the aging e36 m3. Again the v8 s4 was always compare with the m3. Not until the 335i raged into the scene is it suddenly the competitor to the top 3 series.

I agree the S models are meant to compete with the top 3 series. The RS are meant to compete with the M. It is true, there was a time when the S and M cars competed directly, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore, however, Audi's strange pricing scheme makes them not competitive. Their pricing and configurations have put them in an odd position in the market. |

There are somethings that the s4 has over the 335xi. Objectively, the s-tronic is by far the best 7 speed dual clutch system available and the quattro system is by far better than bmws. It will get better mpg and perform better than a stock 335xi. We all know that a modded 335xi will destroy a s4, but there are always downsides to modding (voiding your warranty, etc.. etc.. ) Subjectively, I think the s4/a4 looks 1000x better than the e90 335 and the interior is so much better also. The s4 should compete with the 335xi, but expect to pay more for the s4. |

im sorry but are you illiterate... i said it cant really be compared in the way how we compare lexus bmw and merc right now because the bmw 3, merc c, lexus is has 3 cars while the audi 4 has 4 cars. audi has 1 more car because the new a4 has a i4 turbocharged version while bmw and merc and lexus does not.

Doesn't matter. All other things being equal, the Audi has the fugliest LED accents on the headlights I've ever seen. You couldn't pay me to drive it.
Minus those, it looks like a pretty nice car. |

The S4 is not in the same class.........plain and simple.
When I was shopping for my 335xi nothing could touch it for the price. I needed to get a $75K S4 to come close to it. (keep in mind I am in canada)

Off topic... I just flipped through 'Car' magazine. The cover story was the RS5. Looked hot as hell and has a turbo V8. But like this car, I'm afraid to see the price.
