"What class are you?"
Watched a taping of Oprah for today and this was the topic in discussion. First they had three women(of course) that they interviewed whom were also apart of the audience and asked them what traits in a person constitutes what class they're apart of? There was one young lady that worked as a cocktail waitress in N.Y. who considered herself to be apart of the "middle class", she drives an E46 330i that she did not purchase herself, but was a "gift"?? When she was at work she was treated as if she was low class, I guess being in a service position that's somewhat expected. However, when she was out on the street she said that people still looked down upon her for others raosons, one of them being that because she drives a BMW that makes her "snotty"(apart of the upper class or "high class"), and so on.
Throughout the show there was the constant reference to the idea that "the rich are getting richer, and the poor are getting poorer" - truth be told things are most definately harder for everyone at whatever end of the stick you are to one extent, more or less. Regardless if only 1% of the country controls almost half of the nations wealth and holds it with a clenched fist, there's potential for things to get nasty in the future between the "classes". We spend a crap load of money in other countries to make a pointless display of our military might, but we have a myriad of problems here, on our own soil, that we won't even bother to acknowledge. A shame? Without a doubt, but no use in complainig when you're every bit of capable of making a difference in this world, and whatever happens in this life I've been granted I know that I'm accountable for anything and everything that's happend, at least a good portion of it. With that said I can't see myself living in static, only advancing. At the same time this growing divide between the classes is glaring reality. |

If I were president. I'd cut the military budget, and put it into something more constructive...like building a colony on the moon, and creating a super-laser that could easily destroy whole countries, kinda like the Death Star.

I'm a huge success story in my family, rising from generations of blue collar working class folks to where I am now: lower upper middle class.
