To be fair, that Alpina version is rarer than the regular Z8, only 555 of them

They're asking way too high. Normal Z8s are going for $150k+ but even Alpinas aren't that expensive. Hell BaT sold an Alpina in June for $352.5k.

Mind blowing, but seeing Z3 clown shoes asking like 90k is pegging the insane meter. They really aren’t very good cars, and yes the Mafia will come after me now but they aren’t, sorry. I had one for a few months years ago and was totally underwhelmed. I even got to throw some rod bearings in the S54 during my short ownership as well haha.

I'm sure you must be aware that the Alpina version was just a way to get an automatic Z8 to market for those who wanted to profile in a Z8 but couldn't handle a stick-shift car. The Alpinas were all automatics, had less power, were a touch slower, but did have some nice Alpina features like body-color mirrors instead of chrome and, of course, like them or not, Alpina design wheels. All "normal" Z8s were sticks. Smaller numbers produced isn't always indicative of rarity beyond it being less desirable when new.

LoL nice! I was serious though, the clown shoe owners are out of their minds with love for that car (admirable kind of). The Z4M is so vastly superior to that car but for some reason folks pay the big bucks for the Z3M. You should have seen the venom I took back in the day on bimmerforums when I said I sold the car because I didn't like it hah.

I feel like this type of stuff is the new reality for ICE sports cars. Prices have skyrocketed during the pandemic times, combine that with oncoming ICE bans and this is what happens.
Great I guess if you own one of these cars and are looking to sell, but otherwise sucks for the rest of us.

Haha, we have similar views. I don't get the clown car fetish either.

Absolutely love the Z8.
If ever I was in the fortunate position to be able to buy one, I would love to go for the Alpina Z8 version (if not, the regular Z8 will do I suppose ) This one went for nearly £250,000 in 2016.

But collectors aren't necessarily picking 'the better car' by all metrics, rare = $$ to them, even if they were not as desired new. Sides, it is a dealer selling it.

Having said that, I went to Z Homecoming this year and it was crazy to see how many original owners there were (not just the M's). These guys are truly different breeds and it's really cool to see how fanatical they are. P.S. On another note, I absolutely hate seeing ICE cars being turned into investments. I know this is not a new phenomenon, but still. I tend to prefer to buy cars with miles so that they would never become collectible but in rare color combos. That way, I never feel bad about adding miles myself.

I've never had the income to jump on any new BMW but I loved the Z8 when it first came out. So I would come back to sniff around the used market on this car and it never depreciated much even when the used car market was normal. Beautiful car even today.

My question is did the previous owner take a huge bath on trading this into a dealer?
