I wonder though -I wonder what the comparative stiffness and energy dissipation would be in that particular direction.

I'm not an engineer. My speculation is that it might be like hitting water, and then the roof would have snapped inward. Or it doesn't snap inward, but buckles the roof attachment points to where the roof gets pushed into the cabin as a single piece. Either way I don't think it would have worked out as well for this guy.
On the flip side I could see 100 poeple repeating this feat and it not working out for any of them. It's crazy that this guy survived. |
