BMW M4 GT3 Fanatec Steering Wheel Documentary
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com The description from the video: "BMW M Motorsport and sim racing hardware manufacturer Fanatec created a world first with the joint development of the steering wheel for the BMW M4 GT3, which unites real-world and virtual racing in an unprecedented way. The 30-minute documentary “Fusion: Motorsport meets SIM racing” describes the pioneering work in the development of the steering wheel, which works perfectly in both racing cars and simulators, in detail – from the first idea viewed with scepticsim, through the initial meetings and various construction phases, to testing." What I find remarkable is the uniqueness of the steering wheel design, in terms of the unlikely collaboration of both companies, Fanatec and BMW Motorsports, to create a one of a kind product.
This isn't a Fanatec copy of the real steering wheel, it is the real thing. If the M4 GT3 sat in your driveway, you could pull the steering wheel from your driving sim rig, walk up to the car, plug it in and drive away. This has to be a first in motorsports, and driving simulation. Waiting for the price, though I need another steering wheel like I need a hole in my head. Still....I want one. UPDATE: I just found that the MSRP of this wheel will be under $5,000 Euros. The article reads as follows: "Pricing is of concern, of course. But according to BMW and Fanatec, the new steering wheel will be competitively priced with an expectation to have an MSRP of below 5,000 euros." "competitively priced", LOL Last edited by GearRex; 11-15-2021 at 08:50 PM.. |

A+ for Road America, marcelokayro . Many happy weekends spent up there when I was younger, and even a few on track sessions in my father's heavily modified 1978 Ford Fiesta (with European XR2 drivetrain).

As a youngster I remember Dad complaining about how his brakes and tires were shot on the drive home...I can't afford that (nor the accidental off that I'm sure I'd have) in the M...but man that would be a blast. Just a great track.

BMW will debut this car on the next Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona (January 2022) with BMW Team RLL - Rahal Letterman Lanigan, in the new GTD PRO class (GTLM class is no longer a class in IMSA racing, replaced by GTD PRO. It ended this year at Petit Le Mans in Road Atlanta a few weeks ago). Also, 4 M4 GT3 cars were sent to Turner Motorsports, to race them under their own livery.
Up to the end of the season on IMSA racing, they were racing the BMW M8 GTE, but it will be replaced with the M4 GT3 for next year. Though they will race in the IMSA GTLM/GTD class, the cars are built to the FIA-GT3 Specifications, and we will see them in Le Mans next year. I look forward to a successful season. The WeatherTech SportsCar Championship series is by far, one of my favorite racing series, after Formula 1. You can buy your own M4 GT3 car from BMW for a cool $415,000 euros. |
