Strangest path to riches/fame?
That Bill Burr bit about great men got me thinking. You know, the one about the Terminator, he got famous for lifting weights, moved to the US, learned English, became a famous actor even though no one really understands his thick accent "GET DOWN!! THERE'S A BOMB, GET OUTTA HERE!!!" Then he marries a Kennedy and becomes the Governator. If he wasn't born outside Yankeeland, he probably would've already been president.
As great as that was, the one that always makes me smh is the perversity of Kim K. Ok, she was supposedly already well-off as her dad was a well-to-do lawyer and she somehow hung around Paris Hilton. However, she basically got famous because of some supposedly leaked amateur porn of her and then POOF she has her own show, brings the rest of her family in and they are closing in on being billionaires? What the.... Can anyone top that crazy path?

I create nothing. I own. We make the rules, pal...Now you're not naive enough to think we're living in a democracy, are you buddy?

The thing about being a social media celebrity is that once you get big enough, there is a feedback loop to get even more famous as people search track you to figure out who you are. Charli is just 17 (18 in May 22); if she plays her cards right, she'll hit some big $$. If so, her path will be paved by TikTok. |

Here in SoCal, you can grow immune to "strange stories to riches." If I met a multibillionaire who made their riches by selling AOL discs on eBay or by owning a chain of grasshopper museums...it would not be surprising.

My friend - "Do you remember the cassette tape?" Long story short, her father patented the cassette tape. Which my response was, that's amazing but, tapes died out when we were like 4ft tall. My friend - "I didn't finish. Do you remember the CD case cover?" Long story short again, when the CD's were about to launch, I'm guessing with whatever he learned about cassette tapes, her father patented the cd case covers or some component of it. So every CD, PlayStation game, et all that was sold? Her family got a cut. Her fathers name is all over the cassette tape patent so yeah, story checks out and it explained so many things about her and her family and $$$. |

I knew a British guy who dropped out of school at 15 and went to work as a coal miner. Fast forward in life and he invented portable blast walls and barriers. Those things you see around embassies and military bases. He struck it mega rich with that one idea. He certainly wasn't famous but boy was he wealthy.

I remember hearing of a story about a homeless man pretending to have no legs and two rich guys made a bet to see how the guy would act if he suddenly became rich.
This would have made a great movie. |

We have a bunch of random pianos on the streets painted as "art pieces" around Sarasota. There was a homeless man seen playing beautifully and although I can't find anything about his net worth, he def was offered a recording contract but it appears he keeps going back to the streets.
Cool story to see right around your home and the makeover he went through |

Wow, think I heard about that story in the 80s. In the 80s there was a semi-pro baseball pitcher who had to spend a ton of money in order to get an inheritance he knew nothing about. Turns out some guys tried to hide some money when his time was up. Big scandal.
