1 Gig Internet Price
How much are you paying for 1 gig internet? I was paying over $70 for 200 mb but went to the upgrade page and there is 1 gig for $60 a month for 1 year. Upload is only 35 mb though but faster than what I'm getting. Of course they'll raise the price after a year but I'm already paying $15 more for slower internet. Got a link saying I need to agree to the terms for the order to go through but said there was an error when I clicked through though upgrade modem is supposed to arrive in a couple of days.

In FL $131/mo. (Comcast) including gateway rental. In our NC condo, $40/mo. (AT&T) including gateway rental. $60/mo. is a good deal for as long as they offer it.

$65/mo (ATT). However this is the cheaper bundled price. In my market pricing is set to discourage using a cheaper streaming service.

$90/mth with gateway.
Was an intro price when ATT Fiber was new to my area. Would be more if I cancelled and try to get it again. I don't have cable or a landline. So no bundle deal.

Just curious, those of you who get these elite internet speeds and fiber setups, do you really notice a profound difference or need such speeds? If so, for what type of activities are such speeds required?
I've always been doing the bare minimum, up to 200mpbs now, and it has always been sufficient for gaming, streaming, surfing and so forth, everything loads instantly. To me it's similar to 4G 5G LTE and so forth, I haven't really noticed THAT much of a difference, nor in phone makers' claims that their screens are that much better over time. My iphone 7 screen looks as sharp as my iphone 12 pro max. |

Not gig but $60 a month for ~800 down, 25 up via Comcast. You have to keep an eye on it though as that is always the "under contract" price and the moment the contract expires it goes up $20. You then need to sign another contract to get the price back down.
I dont "need" 800, I was doing fine with 200 but since bumping up my up went up, which does help a little bit and I think there are some different QoS rules as my uptime went up and latency down. Really nice since I WFH and manage servers and need to be able to do what I want, when I want, no matter what. Most of my money goes into my LAN. I have a media server I typically use as I don't really like much TV and the house is all smart TVs running either youtube TV or pulling from the media server. That and a ton of home automation stuff, but that is less bandwidth and controlling multiple devices. |

$89 a month with Ting (NOT an introductory rate). They don't cover a lot of areas right now though.

but other than that, not a huge difference normally between when i was 200-300mb and the 1gb i have now. The biggest change ive seen though is when the system gets bogged down. Instead of starting at 300 and dropping to 50-100, i drop to 500-600.

I pay about $90 a month for gig service with Comcast. While it's nice to be able to download files/updates at a faster rate, I could really care less as I'm hosting some servers on my home network and focus on the upload speeds which are more important to me. I went with gig service as it's the fastest upload speed available for me in my area.

I just renewed a 2 year deal with Xfinity and am paying $69/month for Gigabit service.
I was formerly paying $59/month for 600 mbps the last 2 years, but the rate was about to double before I called and faked terminating my service. ![]() |

But I work remotely even before the pandemic and it wasn't much more at the time I got it, I believe I had xfinity 80mbps with a cap before for not much less. This was unlimited bandwidth, must faster upload (handy for remoting into servers and transferring large files), great for gaming (even while someone else is watching netflix/etc). Now that I am locked in at a lower price, it is a great deal even if it's more than I need.

So I called to cancel and am back to 200 for $74. Actually used the chat. Anyway I'm still getting the faster speed for now but don't really notice that much difference. So yeah unless they can get fiber upload speed and latency not worth it to upgrade.

Got to love lobbyists. They got exceptions from the Monopoly rules so they don't have to share their lines like phone carriers do and they even got states to ban municipalities from competing against them.

You will notice some difference if on a wired connection or if there are multiple devices in use at the same time. Is it necessary? No, not for most. But also makes no sense to pay more for a slower connection which is how it always seems to work out with the providers I have available.

For the full 1Gb download... you are going to need a higher capacity modem? A lot of modems max out at 500mb. The best my Netgear Nighthawk can pull is 650mb through the house. If I run an ethernet line directly to the modem... I can hit 950mb. Most people don't need more than 500mb, BUT if you have say a family of four and everyone is working from home or doing school online you need the bandwidth. I do video editing and design so my file sizes regularly are a few Gigs at a time and I have to download and upload to my servers and client servers. |
