Wisdom Teeth Removal

Sooo, I got my wisdom teeth finally removed. I only had two and one of them was growing sideways. It's been almost a week since they were out but there are still parts of my face that feel like their under anaesthesia. I thought that this was weird so I called my dentist and now tells me that it's Nerve damage. Apparently, it's more prevalent as you get older but man, I'd be lying if I said that I haven't been freakin out. Has anyone else experienced this? How long did it last to fully heal?

I had all 4 removed when I was 18. They gave me enough anestesia to knock out someone twice my size. I was out of commission for 3 or 4 days.

I felt minor numbing for at least a week. I bled for 2+ weeks. Not sure how long the sockets took to completely heal, but it was many many many months.

Not sure what to tell you about nerve damage, but get a second opinion.

It sorta depends on the person too.

I had one rooted in my sinus cavity. The other was rooted directly between a nerve. So mine was more complicated than just pulling the teeth. They had to be done so strategically.

+1, i was 16 when i got my 3 removed, i was ok after the first day. hardly any bleeding and any pain was mitigated by hydrocodone

Like I said, my bottom one was growing sideways and the top one was still deep in there. The bottom one had to be impacted and removed. I waited to get it done and am fresh outta college so I'm "a lot older" than the recommended age of 16 lol.

2 weeks for me. 4 impacted wisdom teeth, my whole face was like a chipmunk. not only that, but my face turned GREEN! like it was bruised up badly

my experience was so painful. it took the dentist about 5 hours of yanking, and hammering the shit. my anesthesia went out a few times during the process. i was full awake, and in pain. at one point i was in so much pain i grabbed the guy's throat and squeezed the shit out of it. i wanted to punch him too before my dad held me down

If your in your 30s with a fully developed horizontally impacted wisdom tooth, don't touch it unless it is symptomatic and causing pain or creating decay on the neighboring molar. The close proximity to the lingual and inferior alveolar nerve-the ones that are causing your stress-may be compromised if the tooth is surgically extracted and subsequent nerve damage can occur. You're gonna have to give it time to see if the numbness goes away. Did you go to a Oral Surgeon, or a general dentist? Were you aware and made aware of these possible side effects of WT removal? I only extract teeth that are within my scope and usually refer difficult impacted molars to a specialist informing the patient prior to any treatment. A good sign is if your'e slowly getting sensation back since the tissue and bone are healing around the nerve.

I'm 25 but I seriously was an idiot. Hindsight is always 20/20 but my stupidity in this scenario baffles even me. I just went to the dentist that was closest to my house for cleaning and just casually asked him about it. He said he did it all the time and it was no real big deal. I didn't really think much since he's in our network and never really realized the risk. He never really sat down with me and told me all the risks although he's trying to cover his ass saying he did.

If he told me there was a large chance I would have nerve damage I would have walked out. I just wanted it out since it was making my teeth bunch together, it wasn't hurting at all.

Apparently I had an infection and he gave me some medicine for it so some feeling returned in an area but a lot of it it still kinda numb. I seriously feel like a retard right now and should have known better. I have to go back to get my stitches out but I seriously want to start bitching him out for not telling me this could of happened but this isn't going to accomplish anything. Any advice?
