How long to wait to do PPF/ceramic?

I've been driving the same truck for a decade now, and should have my new M5C end of this month/beginning of next, and while I do want to do full PPF and ceramic treatment, I also really want a chance to drive and enjoy my new ride for a while.

Obviously rock chips would be the big risk if I waited on PPF.

Curious what you've done? Have you taken delivery and waited a while to PPF/ceramic? Or did you just wait it out another week or so, so that you didn't have to worry about it?

Struggling with this one...

Absolutely get it done right after driving it off the dealers lot if it's important to you! Why risk it for the sake of a few days without the car. I understand it's tempting to want to drive your amazing new car around but you only have one chance to PPF a new car and that's when it's new. Just my 2c

I took my CS in right as soon as possible. I tried to do it the next day but they were booked, so I didn't drive it until I took it to the shop.

I had 139miles on my CS when I took it in - and I had multiple rock strikes on the lower front fenders already. The Corsas are sticky.

Have the car flatbedded to detailer right after delivery. Tell dealer to leave all the wrappings and stuff on. Have your detailer clean the car and unwrap it and take care of your baby from the get go. Sorted!

Rock chips drive me insane, and if I can avoid it from the get go, that's the route I'd take. Did it with my last car and will do it just like that from now on.

Kind of a weird question. Isn't it obvious to do it right away? You could drive 5 miles and a car in front of you kicks up a rock on your paint and chips it.

Hah the questions are fine. Sounds like he's never PPF'd or put ceramic on a car before. I hadn't either until last year and while it seems completely obvious to me now I had no idea about it all before. Even then I scheduled my car to be PPF'd, coated, and tinted before I even took delivery so I could be in the shop's calendar and not have to wait.

OP as you've seen — do it right away. It protects your car and if you're going to do it — the longer you wait the more likely you are to get rock chips. If you don't have a flat/matte finish it's worth considering just doing the front of the car and high impact areas for PPF. Ceramic goes on the whole car and I strongly recommend doing the wheel faces (and barrels) + brake calipers.

If your shop does tinting and you are planning to tint it .. I recommend doing it at the same time. Not because it needs to but all these things take time and not having your car for several days. Nice to get it all out of the way at once. Good luck.

I had my car delivered to the performance center in Greer. My detailer brought his covered trailer from ATL and met me there after my track day. Car went directly into trailer and to the detail shop for PPF.

If you do not want rock chips then do not drive a single mile on a public road before getting PPF. Period.

If you drive it, you will get chips. It's unavoidable. It's like trying to swim without getting wet.

If you do get rock chips then there is not much you can do other than repaint the area. And you can't put PPF on fresh paint. It needs to cure for a few weeks first due to outgassing. So this is simply not a good option because you can't drive the car for a while if you don't want to chip it again.

I don't know shit about shipping companies and see horror stories all the time regardless of how good they typically are. It probably would have been cheaper for me to ship my CS from Knoxville to northern VA but I was happier to risk 500 miles of driving than find some damage from having it shipped. Maybe unfounded but it was a good time driving at least.

Probably wouldn't have been lol, I'm more concerned about the rock chips and stuff than cost, of course I'm shipping enclosed and preferably just my car in the trailer no others.

My question is what happens, knock on wood, if one with ceramic coating PPF, gets into a fender bender and panel work is done at the body shop. Will you have to take it back to the ceramic coating dealer after body work to have them sand off the entire panel and then reapply a new ceramic coat to the entire panel so it all blends evenly with the new body work?

well ceramic coating and ppf are 2 very different things, ppf is like saran wrap for your car, ceramic is just an extra layer of clear coat more or less. if you have ppf you would just get it added onto the new panel, and if you have ceramic they'd just add it to the panel if you don't have ppf, ceramic doesnt change the color just adds some shiny

I used Montway Auto Transport to have my car transported (enclosed trailer) from Maryland to detailer in Miami with zero issues.

Car picked up and dropped off exactly as scheduled and driver was great communicating with me.

Car arrived perfect.

any sort of guarantee for pick up day and time? Since I'm picking up from the performance center I don't have the luxury of waiting a day or 2 if the driver doesnt get tehre lol

Not sure about the guarantee tbh .. never asked.

The person who recommended them to me had a very good experience as well so I went with them based on that.

my issue with them is they're just a broker so they just sell your "bid" out to various companies and basically take no responsibility... instead of an actual shipper that has the trucks and sends them out to do stuff, so you might get lucky or you might get a terrible company lol

Better to be lucky than good I suppose .. car arrived without a scratch and believe me we checked every panel, front & rear ends etc.

I did check the BBB (A+) and Trustpilot prior to using them and they scored well.

Good luck!!
