Are you going to be purchasing a new BMW in the future?

The rebates offered on new purchases make membership more than worth it. Without that though.... I'm not so sure.

I joined in 2005, right after buying my first BMW (E90 330i). A year and a half later, I unexpectedly found myself in the market for a new BMW already - a Z4M Coupe. I was able to take advantage of the club rebate of $750. Boom.

Just got a $500 rebate on my M2c last year. So yeah, for me, it's been more than worth it. I'd opine (as will many other members) that the monthly club magazine, Roundel, is worth the price of membership on its own.

For the first 12 years I never attended a club event. That has changed in the last 4 - I now regularly attend drives/events that the local chapter hosts, and they've been a blast. So overall, WELL worth it for me. YMMV.

IMO, it's only worth it right before you buy / lease / steal a new BMW. You get a rebate check for being a member. I think it's $1500?

Agreed on it only being worth it if you buy/lease a new BMW. (If you steal one and still expect a rebate you're just getting greedy.)

How much of a rebate depends on the model... and they recently reduced the rebate amounts:

I read the magazines cover to cover. I am purchasing a car I found in their classifieds, and I have sold one there as well. Definitely worth it for me.

Definitely worth it for me - I track and attend many other club activities (group drives, cars'n'coffee, meets). The member discounts can pay for the membership on their own (parts vendors, Griots, etc). The new car rebate requires that you either have been a member for a while, or you get the 3-year stint - check the fine print, this changes over time but I don't think you can just joint today and get a rebate on a car you buy tomorrow. It's membership drive time right now so there is also a raffle for new members (I think it's a day at M-school this year) - tell 'em #540002 sent you and we both get entered in the drawings.

The rebate often doesn’t apply, read the fine print. For example, if you already use another discount, like the USAA one, then you’re not eligible for the rebate. The last couple of new BMWs I bought did not qualify because of this.

I would not factor the rebate into the value of membership. To me the value is the magazine and events, including track days and local chapter stuff. If you have an inactive chapter or no interest in that, then you have to love the magazine to pay the cost.

Also some shops provide a parts or labor discount to members, but they seem to be fewer and fewer each year. Worth asking, tho.

Talk about giving the finger to the environmentalists, not offering a rebate on i-series EV models!

I had plenty of racing buddies back in the day who were BMW CCA members, just to participate in the local region's autocross events. I personally never attended a BMW CCA event, but know that many of their core event people were also SCCA members so things were more or less the same.

On the subject of SCCA and BMW CCA (and PCA), all three groups are supporters of the Tire Rack Street Survival program for teen drivers and put on schools all over the country. I encourage membership in one or more of these organizations just to support this program, and strongly recommend that any parents of teen drivers visit the following web site for info about the program:

I liked my Mercedes Club Membership for the TECH SESSIONS at the dealership. American Service Center was amazing and the dealership in Tyson's was amazing, the Tyson's Service Manager was one of the classiest business people I'd ever encountered, you can tell that location has a global clientele that expect perfection.

So when I went to my first BMW Club Tech Session I arrived first and when it came time to bring the cars into the service bay some Club organizer tells me new members get to work on their cars last. So I hung around helping some very nice, interesting people (one guy was like a advisor for a U.S. Department with foreign interest, really smart guy) so I helped some people work on their cars until the event was shutting down and I had to rush my work. But I never rejoined the BMW Club after that.

I'll second the plug for Street Survival. Also a plug for those with some track experience to consider instructing. You don't need to be HPDE instructor-level to have enough info to help the kids out, and it really is a blast.

Hmm, had no problem using my $2k from USAA and getting my rebate on my X3 back in 2020…. Maybe I shouldn’t admit that!

It's absolutely worth it to join and the rebate is only a minor part. Roundel is worth the price of admission but also most dealers will give a club discount on parts.

And even if you go to one or two meetings a year, or one rally or street driving event, it's a club that is worth belonging to.

They may have changed this as it was very unpopular. The last new BMW I bought was 2018, and it was denied because of the (larger) USAA rebate. I looked at the CCA web site and didn’t see the exclusion, but I couldn’t open the application which they say is where all the exclusions are listed.

As others have said, it's worth it for the rebate if you plan to buy or lease an eligible vehicle during membership. Also, if you plan to go to any of the meets or other events then it's probably worth it. I don't find the magazine worth anywhere near the membership fee and have never used the member discount programs because other associations offer the same or better discounts.

Looking in to this it's not quite that simple. If you only buy a 1 year membership you have to have the membership for a year before you're eligible for the rebate. If you buy the membership for 3 or more years, you're eligible for the rebate after 6 months membership. However, in the fine print is:

So this is clearly not something that can wait until you're ready to buy a car to get the rebate. If I'm reading this right, and you buy a 3 year membership for $159, then you would need to wait until at least 4 months later to take delivery of your new car so that you can still file for the rebate at the 6 month mark (within 60 days)

It also applies to used cars but at much smaller rebates.

I wish I'd known about this back over the winter. We knew we'd be buying a car this spring but now we're out of luck on the rebate due to the 6 month minimum restriction.

The Club has always said that "Chapters are the backbone of the Club". I suggest you get in touch with your local BMW CCA chapter and see if it doesn't offer something you find appealing, even if that's camaraderie of local BMW owners and perhaps invaluable experience of long-time BMW owners.

For you vintage guys, back when I was in charge, BMW CCA provided monetary support for events such as The Vintage in NC.

Not saying CCA is for everyone but there's usually some bright spot a BMW owner can find once you disregard the poor management and questionable policies. It is always the people and that's usually the local chapters. I come from a different perspective after about 45-years of membership and having been awarded Lifetime membership. Many of my friendships came about through meeting fellow Club members over the decades. It's really about the cars, and the people. You can always try it and see how it works out for you. It is not necessarily a lifetime commitment—but it can be!
