Lightbulb 2023 PPF Preference

Getting my PPF installed next week on every inch of my M8, and wanted to see what brands you've used.

Right now, I'm going with XPEL Pro.

Thoughts?

XPEL Ultimate Plus?

Where are you planning to get it done? I'm also local So. FL

Expect to spend around $5-6K to get your entire car done.

I had my Z4 done with Xpel Ultimate Plus in North Miami at Custom Wrap Design on 151 St. They did a great job and if you want the contact information send me a pm.

The ones I know of are XPEL, SunTek, and STEK. Not sure of the differences but STEK is the most expensive from what I’ve seen.

I have XPEL Ultimate Plus on my e93 M3! The film is starting to get yellow tint; my car is Alpine White so somewhat noticeable under bright daylight. The car always park inside the garage so I am very disappointed with XPEL as it wasn't cheap to have it done.

When did you have it installed? Your car is 10 years old? When did it start yellowing?

I should have specified it. I am the second owner; purchased the car in the summer of 2020. The PPF was installed in November, 2020 so less than 2 years. I would not complaint if it was installed 10 years ago
The film and installation have lifetime warranty so I might have them do it over but it was a huge pia as they had to re-do the whole hood the last time.
To be honest, I did not notice the yellowing until one of my buddy pointed it out to me. Maybe it won't be that bad on darker cars.

Xpel has a 10 year warranty that covers yellowing like you describe. It may be a PIA but I would definitely file a claim.

XPEL, Inc. (the “Company”) expressly warrants to the owner that, for a period of ten (10) years (the “Warranty Period”) from the date of initial installation. The Company will cover defects on the ULTIMATE PLUS & STEALTH (the “Product(s)”) such as: yellowing, cracking, blistering, and delaminating. This Limited Warranty only applies to the Company’s Products which are professionally installed in the manner recommended by the Company.

Non-Yellowing:
Our proprietary film formulation will not yellow from UV exposure, ensuring protected areas are nearly invisible.

So many shops talk chit on it but 3M Scotchguard Pro is way better than XPEL. Harder to install but takes track abuse/heat so much better than XPEL does. You're not going to get a lot of unbiased opinions from PPF shops so whichever turns them a better profit is "the best."

IMHO, all of the top brands should do the job. In South Florida, many of the shops use XPEL and SunTek. Last September when I priced out allover PPF for my Z4 the majority of the shops quoted me in the $4,500-$5,000 range.

When they see an expensive car like the M8 they tend to quote more money as they assume that if you can afford to buy a car like that you can also pay top dollar for PPF.

Negotiate!!!

The only PPF I know of is "3M PRO SERIES 4.0 PAINT PROTECTION FILM" - I had a section of that put on the bumper sill to avoid scratches from loading/unloading the trunk.

The guy I go to is in Melbourne, FL

i had LLumar ppf on my 458 and it was good. self heals with warm water or in the sun. It is thin though so if you're driving through a salty winter or a regular highway commute it isn't going to hold up like the thick xpel stuff. I had llumar on my 335i front bumper as well and it was chewed up after one winter and had holes. xpel i've heard sort of diminished paint appearance though due to it being a thicker film.

also don't tell them you have an M8. tell them its a 2013 640i or something. if they change price when you show up ask them whats so different applying ppf to either. many shops price gouge if they think you got money.

I have the full front half of my 2022 RS5 done in Xpel Ultimate Plus. Only 1500 miles in and it's saved my ass a few times already.

If you have a dealer in your area, check out Prestige Films Clearguard Alpha. It's the only film I know of that is optically clear and also has self healing properties that do not require heat. Seems to be pretty impressive stuff.

Thank you! I am aware of the warranty and the installer asked me to bring the the car for inspection but I haven't got a chance to do it. Also, online searches have lot of information regarding "yellowing" of PPF on white cars so I am not sure if it is worth re-do if it is gonna happened again.
To be honest, it is not that bad, only noticeable under certain light conditions and angles. I didn't notice until my buddy (a professional detailer) told me. Unfortunately, it can't be unseen once he showed me
Beside the yellowing, I am very happy with the protection thr PPF provides. Definitely save my butts a few times.
I think most top tiers PPF films are pretty on par! Most importantly is the installer. Make sure you select the most experienced and easy to work with! There will most likely be some kind of imperfection on the installation so you want one that willing to fix those to your satisfaction.

That seems low, but it may vary by region.

In Denver, I've been quoted $6500-9500 for a full car from 4 different places.

Suntek or Xpel seem to be the preferred options.
